The cheeky life of viral Mr Kansas, and why his ‘cake’ videos are more than just thirst traps

Mister USA 2026 might be over, but Mister Kansas, John Ahlstedt, has oddly become a breakout star because of a few cheeky reasons. 

The competition, which saw a load of hot men battle it out for the chance to represent the USA at Mister Universe, concluded at the end of August. Mr Tennessee, Jaydon Kanipe, won the whole competition.

Representing the great State of Kansas, John Ahlstedt competed in Mister USA. Somehow, amidst a sea of objectively gorgeous – and barely clothed men – John stood out and went super viral on TikTok and Twitter. 

His announcement on the Mister USA Instagram read: “A proud husband, devoted father, and passionate advocate for growth, Johnny’s journey began with a simple but powerful mission: Become the best version of himself for his family. Through fitness, self-reflection, and embracing his ADHD diagnosis, he discovered clarity, confidence, and the courage to use his voice.

“Johnny believes real strength goes beyond the gym—it’s about character, compassion, and lifting others up. As a leader and role model, he stands for dignity, equality, and the freedom to be unapologetically yourself.”

His follower count has shot up since the show, and he’s now sitting at over 214k followers. Moreso, his cameo is now the most popular on the entire planet, outranking the influencer Bofem, Buffy’s James Marsters, and James Buckley from The Inbetweeners. 

His cameos are in a Speedo, if that helps, and they’re kinda naughty. 

The reason people LOVE him

Though Twitter has been enjoying the Mister USA competition for months, the focus on Mr Kansas really took off after the swimsuit portion of the show. Simply put, his body, as one person described it, was “sculpted by Leonardo da Vinci” himself. He was the only competitor to wear a full-on Speedo, and it showed off his “thick thighs” and “juicy wagon.” 

It doesn’t take a lot for Twitter gays to get all hot and bothered, but admittedly, there was just something innately alluring about Mr Kansas. That golden retriever energy paired with *that* body was essentially a siren song.

Most of the reactions are simply too much to include here, but one of the more PG responses read: “That Kansas Cake is a wedding cake back there. It’s stacked and layered.”

Okay, that last one wasn’t very PG – it’s slim pickings between fanfictions and play-by-play runthroughs of what would go down.

Being hot is about all you need to go viral these days, but there’s a much deeper reason that Mr Kansas is now beloved on social media. 

You see, despite being straight and married, Mr Kansas is a fierce ally of the LGBTQ+ community, to the point that it’s in his bio. And did you notice the full acronym there? Yes, he’s also an advocate for the dolls.

“If you genuinely want to debate transgender athletes, have the f’n debate. Have it in good faith,” he said in a TikTok video. “[But] if this is what you’re running on, while working-class Americans are getting their asses kicked by the cost of living, you are completely of touch from what millions people are dealing with every single day.”

But still, it goes deeper. Mr Kansas is a vocal supporter of all things your nan would describe as “woke” nonsense. He’s anti-ICE, to the point of telling them to “gargle my balls”, an advocate for mental health, and a champion of a new wave of masculinity.

Long story short: He’s a cool af dude who just so happens to be “double caked up.”
