Whether you’re heading to UoL or LJMU, both student unions have pulled out all the stops for Welcome Week
If you’re an incoming fresher touching down in Liverpool, get ready—your calendar is about to get very, very full.
From craft sessions and campus tours to massive club nights and legendary quizzes, here is your ultimate breakdown of what’s happening across both unis.
University of Liverpool

The Guild of Students has lined up an unmissable mix of chilled-out daytime icebreakers and chaotic night events to ease you into student life.
Chill and speed-events

If massive clubs aren’t your immediate vibe, UoL is running plenty of low-key ways to find your crowd in the Gilmour Room and around campus.
The Meet Your Students’ Union event will take place online. It consists of Q&A sessions on the 17th of September to answer all your burning questions about student life.
There are also numerous craft and speed events taking place. Hit up the Gilmour Room on 18th September for a crafternoon dedicated to bedroom decor, followed by board games and speed-mating on the 19th and 20th.
There will also be speed debating and sew-cials, also in the Gilmour Room. Feeling vocal? Try speed debating on the 29th, or head to the sustainable halls sew-cial and speed mating on the 30th.
The Main Events: Parties & Quizzes

When the sun goes down, things ramp up. For the major night events, UoL is hosting handy pre-meet events from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM in the Stanley Theatre so you don’t have to walk in alone.
The Welcome Party will be kicking things off with the Beatles Dub Club in Mountford Hall. This takes place on 20th September from 8pm.
The Big Pub Quiz: Test your general knowledge on 21st September for a shot at the cash jackpot in the Big Pub Quiz. This begins at 7pm, so be there early to secure a table.
The Big Freshers Icebreaker 2026 will take place on 22nd September, take on social challenges, live performances, and giveaways.
Bongo’s Bingo, the iconic rave-meets-bingo student special, hits Mountford Hall on 23rd September.
What you’ve all been waiting for, Welcome Fair and Society Fair. Spread across 24th and 25th September in Mountford Hall. Day one focuses on commercial stands and freebies (with a quiet hour from 9:30am to 10:30am), while day two is all about signing up for societies.

LJMU

LJMU will host Freshers’ events from 14th – 24th September. John Moores student union has packed September with themed campus days, city excursions, and pop-ups.
Themed Campus Days
LJMU is kicking off events across mid-September with a series of daily campus themes and excursions:
This is Liverpool campus day takes place on the 14th September. Launching with campus sessions alongside a Mersey Cruise, a tour of the Royal Liver Building, and a mocktail and masterpiece session.
Made of Music follows on the 15th September. It allows for students to immerse themselves in the city’s musical roots with Magical Mystery Tours, silent disco tours, and musical theatre trips.
Calling all sports fans with stadium tours of both LFC and local grounds, City of Sport campus day will be on the 16th September.
Scouser in Training will be on the 17th September. Featuring Scouse masterclasses, crazy bingo, and comedy nights to get you clued up on local culture.
The Big Freshers Fair & JMSU Pop-Ups
Head down to the Exhibition Centre on 18th September for Freshers’ Fair. Featuring the ultimate gateway to student groups, sports clubs, freebies, and free Domino’s pizza.
JMSU will have pop-ups from the 22nd – 24th September.
After a weekend breather, John Moores student unionis back with speed friending on the 22nd, a beach clean-up at New Brighton Beach on the 23rd, and a cozy quiz night on the 24th.
