‘F**king rubbish’: Miriam Margolyes rips into Harry Potter and the measly amount she got paid

Miriam Margolyes is slamming Harry Potter again, and this time, it’s over the “f**king rubbish” amount she got paid for her role as Professor Sprout. 

Miriam has never been one to hide her displeasure, and it seems she goes viral every couple of weeks for some random uninhibited opinion. She’s long shared unhinged takes on the Harry Potter films, including telling people to “grow up” and move on. Ouch. 

“They should be over that by now,” she said in 2024. “You know, I mean, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children. I think it’s for children.”

In another viral moment, she said: “They get stuck in it. I do Cameos, and people say, ‘Oh, we’re having a “Harry Potter”-themed wedding,’ and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. No.”

In two of the eight Harry Potter films, The Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part Two, Miriam Margolyes played the head of Herbology, Professor Pomona Sprout. Her role was more minor compared to other actors, but she’s still miffed. 

“I’m not thrilled that everybody thinks of me as Professor Sprout,” she said during a panel this week. “Because I have done other, better things.”

She then moved on to her wage, describing it as “f**king rubbish” when you consider how much money the films made.

“Want to know how much I got?” she asked the crowd. “Yeah thought you would! £60K – it’s f**king rubbish!  mean I don’t mind that everybody else got more, I don’t mind … it’s just the way the business works. It’s like that.”

Admittedly, Miriam only had two minutes of screen time across all eight films, so it’s not surprising she got just £60k. Still, that’s an annual salary for such a small role, which isn’t actually that bad – I think she just likes to have a moan. 

To be honest, I’m team literally anyone who wants to stick it to She Who Shall Not Be Named.
