The poor, exhausted Harry Potter stars who desperately want people to ‘grow up’ and move on

With the upcoming reboot of Harry Potter that literally nobody asked for, people are once again straddling the fence when it comes to a particular author’s proclivity for being a hot mess. 

For many of us, Harry Potter was an enormous part of our childhoods; we had the wands, the merch, and could recite spells in our sleep. Unfortunately, in more recent times, JK Rowling has made it increasingly difficult to appreciate the wizards and witches of the Harry Potter world.

It’s effectively drawn a line in the sand. On one side, you’ve got people who can’t ignore the fact that Harry Potter money is funding anti-trans policy, and on the other side you’ve got the people who simply can’t give up their childhood fascination for this little thing called human rights. Finally, you’ve got the fence-straddlers, but they’re largely despised by all sides. 

The same goes for celebrities and the people who starred in the original films. For instance, Emma Watson is very much team human rights, but Nick Frost from the new show is living full-time on the fence. 

When it comes to celebs, you’ve also got a fourth category: The men and women who just want to leave Harry Potter in the past. 

Miriam Margolyes is BRUTAL

Miriam Margolyes had a somewhat minor role in Harry Potter as Professor Sprout, but she’s become a hilarious national treasure with insane comment after insane comment. On the subject of Harry Potter, she’s completely over it. 

“They should be over that by now,” she said in 2024. “You know, I mean, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children. I think it’s for children.”

Though she noted how “wonderful” the films were, she pointed out that it wasn’t “Charles Dickens” and it “wasn’t very important to me.”

“They get stuck in it,” she said about fans. “I do Cameos, and people say, ‘Oh, we’re having a “Harry Potter”-themed wedding,’ and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. No.”

She’s also supported trans people in the past, calling JK Rowling’s views “harsh.”

Ralph Fiennes was a bit more low-key

Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal of Voldemort was nothing short of legendary, and though there were claims that he’s reprising his role in the upcoming show, he fully put those rumours to bed. 

Though he would have been keen to step back into the Dark Lord’s shoes, he noted that the “ship has sailed”. It was 15 years ago, after all. 

David Thewlis is ‘sick of talking about it’

Lupin’s actor David Thewlis did not mince words when he was asked about potentially reprising his role.

Though Robert Pattinson has long acknowledged that Harry Potter played a part in his success, he’s done a lot of work to distance himself from his teen hits like Harry Potter and Twilight. 

In fact, you’ll struggle to find an interview with him where he freely talks about Harry Potter. He’s moved on, and so should we. 

Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t want to be known as ONLY Harry Potter

We practically grew up with Daniel Radcliffe, so it’s difficult to separate him from the iconic character he played in the earliest days of his career. 

“I was very sad to leave Harry Potter but equally there will be an element of excitement about the idea that a script might come in and I don’t have to go: ‘I’m sorry, I’m kind of busy for the next four years.’ The idea of that is quite exciting,” he said. 

When asked about following in the footsteps of Tom Felton (and now Rupert Grint), he vehemently said he’s “not interested.”

Poor Maggie Smith was TIRED

The late and great Maggie Smith was a beloved icon of the franchise, but after countless films and 10 years of her life, she was ready to leave it in the past. 

“I was rather relieved when it was over,” she admitted in one interview, adding in another, “It wasn’t what you’d call satisfying.”

In one interview, she even refused questions about Harry Potter.
