Four brand new storylines in the Harry Potter series that weren’t in the books or films
They’ve never been seen before
The new Harry Potter trailer gave us an even closer look at the HBO series and hinted at four brand-new moments that weren’t in the original books or films.
Coming to HBO Max on Christmas Day, the series is a direct remake of the films based on the books by JK Rowling, who is still horridly transphobic and, thanks to the series, is getting an even bigger platform to express her grim views. Great.
There’s a whole new cast, but the storyline is the same, and the entire first series is going to be Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone, but with a few extra additions.
From the trailer, it looks like there are going to be at least four new storylines that both the books and films never delved into, which might just be the only good thing about the HBO series.
It looks like we’ll find out more about the night Harry Potter’s parents died

In the trailer, there’s a scene where two people are running for their lives over a bridge, and people are convinced it’s Harry Potter’s parents, James and Lily. It looks like we’re going to get a real flashback to the night they were murdered by Lord Voldemort on Halloween night in 1981, so we’ll see the moment from their point of view for the first time ever. Up until now, we’ve only ever seen them through memories and photographs, so this could change everything.
Ron and Hermione’s life before Hogwarts will be shown for the first time

The trailer also shows Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger before they arrive at Hogwarts for the first time and gives an insight into their backstories before we even meet Harry. We see Ron getting his letter to Hogwarts and get a look into The Burrow, which isn’t even mentioned until almost a year later in the books, so this is brand new material. In fact, it looks like the new series is going to show us Hogwarts from all the other characters’ points of view, whereas the films viewed everything from Harry’s perspective.
There will be new classroom scenes and conversations with the teachers

From the teaser, it’s clear that we’re going to get some brand new classroom scenes, and they’ll be a way bigger part of the story. We’re set to see loads of Harry’s first-year lessons, and there’s a new scene where the students receive their school timetables by owl that wasn’t in the books or films.
We also get to hear some of the teachers speak more, including a one-on-one conversation between Harry and Professor McGonagall, where she gives him some advice for the year: “Mr Potter, I expect you to work hard, find what sparks your interest, and make solid friendships.” Dumbledore also tells McGonagall: “We can’t protect them. We can only prepare them.”
More of Ron and Harry’s early friendship will be explored too

In more new scenes that weren’t in the films or books, Harry and Ron’s friendship will be explored in way more detail. One scene shows Harry and Ron having a pillow fight in their Gryffindor dormitory, and it’s an adorable new look into their early days at Hogwarts together.
