A matrix of where the OG Harry Potter film cast stand on the new show and on JK Rowling

The main trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter TV show is out, and now we’ve all remembered the actors from the film series exist. It’s getting harder and harder to keep track of which actors from the Harry Potter movies are linked to that TV show, or have publicly condemned it, or have slammed JK Rowling, or are daring be in the Broadway show… there’s a lot going on. We need a visual aid.

Daniel Radcliffe was among the first cast members to publicly disagree with JK Rowling’s views on transpeople back in 2020. He contributed a whole essay to the Trevor Project. “Transgender women are women,” he wrote, “any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”

In 2024, Daniel Radcliffe told The Atlantic: “It makes me really sad, ultimately, because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic.”

Emma Watson’s opinions on JK Rowling aren’t quite as clearcut. On the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, she said: “I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, [this means] that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I, that I had personal experiences with.”
