Ariana Grande reveals why she’s wearing UGG boots on stage, instead of her usual heels

Ariana Grande has entered her autumn UGG era early, and no, it wasn’t some random off-duty fashion choice. She actually had a very good reason for suddenly abandoning her usual footwear.

She performed in knee-high UGG boots during her concert yesterday, swapping out the towering platforms and sky-high heels that have become basically synonymous with her stage wardrobe.

The singer revealed she’s currently recovering from a deep cut on her foot, meaning her beloved high heels were very much off the table for the final dates of her tour.

Ariana gave fans a glimpse at what was going on backstage on Monday, explaining that she’d suffered a minor injury and would need to wear “cozy footwear” instead.

“My sweet petals, I wanted to let you know I will need to be in cozy footwear for this evening’s show (and possibly tomorrow’s) as I am bandaged up underneath, recovering from a minor injury,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “It is not a sprain or anything muscular but just a deep cut!”

Rather than squeezing her injured foot into a pair of stilettos and simply hoping for the best, Ariana sensibly opted for something a little more forgiving. And by “a little more forgiving”, we mean knee-high UGGs. She actually wore two different colours of the boots to match her outfit changes throughout the show.

Ariana explained that people might notice her struggling slightly with putting weight on the affected foot.

“So when you see me tonight without my signature heels, or even possibly having a little trouble putting weight on that foot, that is why!” she explained. “But please do not fret. On with the show and I am on the mend!”

She then reassured fans that, despite being a few inches shorter than usual, she was still very much ready to perform.

“I cannot wait to perform for you tonight and tomorrow (even if I am a few inches shorter than usual) … I love you always ♾️.”

If there was ever a time to prioritise comfort over serving a look, it’s probably when you have an actual chunk taken out of your foot.

Ariana is now on the mend and, for the time being, it seems the UGGs are getting their moment in the spotlight.
