Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison release date has been pushed back by under a month following an alleged fight with a prison inmate.
Last week, US Weekly reported that Diddy’s release date was reported to be January 24th, 2028.
However, the Federal Bureau of Prisons website showed today that Diddy will now be eligible for release on February 20th, 2028.
Diddy was reportedly caught in a scuffle with an inmate
There has been no confirmation from the Federal Bureau of Prisons or Diddy’s team that his release date is connected to the fight he allegedly engaged in a month ago with a fellow inmate. However, an insider has claimed that Diddy “took matters into his own hands” and engaged in a heated altercation after being dissed by an inmate.
The prisoners reportedly pushed and scuffed each other, while Diddy was said to have “held his own” during the altercation. The insider told TMZ that both men were quickly separated by staff members at the New Jersey prison. Diddy was reportedly placed in solitary confinement.
FCI Fort Dix declined to confirm whether Diddy was moved to solitary confinement, with a statement issued on July 24th reading: “We are not at liberty to disclose or provide internal information pertaining to any inmate in our custody.
“Such information would not be available for the public domain.”
Diddy’s legal team also told US Weekly: “At this point we do not have the necessary information to respond with any clarity”.
After many changes, Diddy is set to be released on February 20th, 2028
Diddy’s federal release date has been changed numerous times since his conviction. In July 2025, the musician was found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution involving multiple women and was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison. Throughout the trial, Diddy denied the charges against him.
At his October 2025 sentencing, his release date was initially set for May 8th, 2028. However, this was later pushed back to June 4, 2028 following allegations that he had violated multiple prison rules in November 2025. It would not be the last time his release date changed.
In June, his release date was moved to February 23rd, 2028, before being changed again to April 15 and then April 25. In July, it was updated once more, this time to January 2028.
On Tuesday, August 4th, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that Diddy is now set to be released from New Jersey’s FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal facility, on February 20, 2028. As with the previous changes, there has been no explanation for the latest adjustment to his release date.
Diddy was also ordered by Judge Arun Subramanian to complete five years of supervised release following his time in prison. He was additionally ordered to pay a $500,000 fine.
The musician is currently participating in a drug-abuse rehabilitation programme during his imprisonment. Participation in such programmes can potentially reduce a federal prisoner’s sentence, subject to the applicable Bureau of Prisons rules.
Diddy’s legal team continues to appeal his conviction and sentence, arguing that his punishment is excessive. They are seeking either an acquittal or resentencing.
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ team, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and FCI Fort Dix have been contacted for comment.
