From wine to pets: Here are four of the rogue things that were at this year’s KCL Freshers’ Fair

You’ll wish you went after reading this

Every September, the KCL welcome fair promises little freshers (or third years if you manage to sneak in) free tote bags, coffee, and the occasional society you can’t believe is real. This year’s fair definitely delivered exactly that and more.

So, here are the four stands that quietly stole the show by just being themselves. No drama, just very specific energy.

Exotic Pet Society

If you like reptiles and enjoy going places, these are your people. Their plan (as advertised at the stall) is to organise trips to reptile expos and zoos. Honestly, kind of genius. If that’s your idea of a very nice day out, they’re already doing the hard work for you.

KCL Bubble Tea Society

I’m officially ranking this as the collab of the year. KCL Bubble Tea teamed up with Hungry Panda and actually gave out free bubble tea. Yes, you read that right.

For those that unfortunately missed out on this iconic collab, the stall was described by multiple tasters as “very cute”. The queue for Hungry Panda was so long and definitely proved one thing: Free boba can solve the Monday blues and make strangers immediately friends.

Mani-Pedi Society

The word on the street is that this was by far one of the busiest and cutest stalls at the fair with very sweet people running it. Their socials are always so genius having recently hosted a Victoria’s Secret watch party as well as a performative male contest in the Bush House courtyard. It was apparently as unhinged as it sounds (in the best way possible, of course).

Fine Wine Society

Last, but not least, there was the Fine Wine Society, who are living proof that not all student wine consumption involves the cheapest bottle of rosé from your Nisa Local (news to me). They host tastings and events including wine crawl’s.

It’s giving organised elegance with a side of hangover management. If you’ve ever wanted to discuss notes of oak in the pub, this might finally be your crowd.
