The definitive ranking of Glasgow’s late-night takeaway spots
This is Glasgow after dark
Loaded Fries – Sauchiehall Street

Loaded fries on Sauchiehall Street seems to be a hidden gem despite being in one of the busiest parts of the city — I hardly ever hear anyone talk about it, even though it’s one of my personal favourites.
Its selection of various loaded fries (Mexican, donner, chicken katsu, pulled beef, etc.) is perfect for when you’ve just stumbled out of the club or even a quick fix late dinner.
While it might not be the cheapest option on the list, Sauchiehall Street’s massive portion sizes and 15 per cent student discount make the meals taste even better.
727 – Great Western Road
This list wouldn’t be complete without the holy grail of Hillhead.

Despite being one of the only late-night food places open in the area, 727 does not disappoint – and I don’t think any Glasgow Uni student can disagree.
I mean, a chippie and kebab in the same place? Who can argue with that one?
Whether you’re 10 drinks deep leaving Oran Mór, or have just spent way too long in the library, boss man will be sure to sort you out.
Kongz – Springfield Quay

I should preface that Kongz (formerly Grillaz) is a drive-through restaurant only; however, if you can, it’s definitely worth it to go.
You may have already seen the eatery on TikTok, with its social presence making it very popular in the Southside. The menu includes smash burgers, loaded fries, pizzas and more. While the food is on the pricey side, the portion sizes make up for it and are perfect for sharing.
With a drive through dessert place located next door to it, it’s a perfect two-in-one trip.
Taco Bell

Basic, I know. However, Taco Bell has saved my bank account with its cravings value menu after one too many doubles in the bar.
I really can’t fault it for its range of burritos, quesadillas, chips, and even offering vegetarian options as well.
A whole menu dedicated to being on a budget while still needing a cravings fix? A student who’s spent almost all of their SAAS payment in one week’s dream.
Blue Lagoon

A true staple. There are multiple locations in Glasgow, so no matter where you are in town there is sure to be one nearby.
Blue Lagoon has been serving customers in Glasgow for 50 years now and has definitely established itself as an icon of our city, with the likes of Justin Bieber even taking a visit.
Some shops have a sit-in area, although there’s nothing quite like waking up the next morning with remnants of your chips, cheese, and curry sauce on your clothes and face.
Desserts – Sauchiehall Street

This may seem like more of a rouge one in comparison to the others, but this place is perfect for those with a sweet tooth.
If you’ve never had a cookie dough to line your stomach before heading to the club, don’t knock it till you try it.
Prices for desserts at Sauchiehall Street range from around £8 to £12, but are justifiable in the name of a sweet treat. It also has an option to build your own toppings for dessert, perfect for those who are more picky or just want some variety.
