Police reveal exactly what happened after viral CCTV shows woman abducted from her doorstep

Police have spoken out after CCTV footage showing a woman being abducted from her own doorstep in Kansas went viral online.

The 20-second Ring doorbell video, recorded at around 2 am on Sunday, shows a woman struggling as a man pulls her out of frame outside a home in Wichita. The footage quickly went viral.

Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses told reporters the clip provided investigators with a “strong starting point” in trying to find the woman and ensure her safety. “The challenge is, this is the only piece of evidence that we have at this time,” he said. “We think someone out there does recognise her.”

Initially, some people speculated the incident could be connected to organised crime. But police have confirmed there is no indication of this.

On Tuesday afternoon, police revealed that the woman involved had come forward herself. Investigators received a phone call from a woman claiming to be the person seen in the video. In a statement, the Wichita Police Department said, “Investigators immediately responded to her location, made contact and transported her to City Hall so detectives could conduct a victim interview.”

Police identified the 35-year-old woman, who lives in North Volusia, as the person in the footage. They said she did not suffer any serious injuries.

The statement continued, “At this stage of the investigation, we believe this incident is a case of domestic violence where the female was victimised by her boyfriend.” Detectives are continuing their investigation and plan to hand the case to the appropriate attorney’s office, where charges could follow.

Police also thanked the public for sharing the video online, saying it may have helped the woman come forward. However, they cautioned against spreading unverified AI-generated images or altered videos, warning that such content could harm the investigation.

“Anything that comes from another source has not been verified. And we cannot confirm the accuracy or validity of that information,” Captain Moses added.
