Celeste Rivas’ death certificate reveals new details weeks after her body was found in D4vd’s car

Establishing how Celeste died was ‘critical’ for detectives

The death certificate of Celeste Rivas, the teen whose body was discovered in a Tesla owned by singer D4vd, has just been released.

Celeste’s body was found on 8 September in a black Tesla that had been impounded in Los Angeles. The car, which was registered to singer D4vd, had been abandoned for several days before tow yard workers raised concerns about a “foul odour” coming from it. When officers searched the vehicle, they discovered Celeste’s remains in the front trunk.

Celeste had been reported missing for more than a year before her body was discovered. In the weeks since, D4vd has cancelled the remainder of his US tour dates, and his record label has paused plans for a deluxe album release. A spokesperson previously told NBC News that the artist was “fully cooperating” with the authorities.

Meanwhile, Celeste’s family have launched a GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses. They described her as a “bright and bubbly” teenager who was loved by all those around her.

People close to D4vd, including his friends, neighbour, and landlord, have also shared details about his and Celeste’s relationship.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, an autopsy has already been carried out by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. However, the death certificate shows that both the cause and manner of death have been “deferred” while officials await toxicology results. This step is common in complex cases where further testing is needed. The certificate also made clear that Celeste was not pregnant at the time of her death, nor had she been in the last year.

Police have described the investigation as ongoing. LAPD Captain Scot Williams told TMZ that establishing how Celeste died was “critical” for detectives. And until toxicology findings are returned, the case cannot officially be classified as a homicide.

No arrests have been made yet.
