Join our team: The Sheffield Tab is looking for new writers and social media contributors
Breaking news for all Sheffield students
The new academic year is here! And that means The Sheffield Tab is looking for new writers and social media contributors to join our team.
No previous experience is required, and any current students at a university in Sheffield are welcome to get involved.
There’ll be two open meetings over the next few weeks for new and existing writers to come along and meet the team, but if you can’t make them, get in touch with us on our Instagram and we’ll get back to you.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for:
- News reporters: to work on our day-to-day coverage, as well as breaking news and exclusives
- Features writers: to work on online pieces relating to student life in Sheffield and events happening around the city
- Social media contributors: to create, present, and edit social media content across our platforms (which have over 28,000 followers)
@thetabsheffield How has it been a month since @Tramlines Festival 2025? #disposablecamera #music #festival #studentlife #students
We’re also interested in hearing from anyone with an interest in photography, or an interest in sports journalism (for our Varsity coverage in March).
So if you are a current Sheffield student with an interest in media and any of the above areas, please get in touch. No previous experience is required.
Why join The Sheffield Tab?
Joining The Sheffield Tab means gaining experience in online and social media journalism – two of the biggest skill areas for anyone wanting to pursue a future career in the industry.
Your work will be featured on our online platforms and read by Sheffield students, university staff, and residents.

It may also be featured on The Tab’s national site (which receives more than 9 million monthly views) or picked up by other national publications. Our Sheffield exclusives have previously been featured in The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, and The Yorkshire Post.
You’ll also get to meet, work, and socialise with like-minded students from across both Sheffield universities and from other Tab publications across the country.
There’s opportunities to receive training from the national Tab team, as well as applying for summer work experience placements.
@thetabsheffield Last week we headed down to @Battlekart Sheffield and it did not disappoint 🤩 If you’re looking for a fun day or night out with your mates to celebrate another year of uni gone, this might be the one for you 🙌 #sheffield #sheff #university #studentlife #student #battlekart
It’s good for your future prospects too: Previous student writers and editors at The Tab have gone on to work for BBC News, Vogue, The Telegraph, and more.
Please also note that, as with most student media, are opportunities are voluntary and not paid.
