The heartbreaking reason Charlie Kirk’s wife can’t tell their children what’s happened to him

Erika and Charlie have two children, aged three and one

The wife of Charlie Kirk is reportedly struggling to come to terms with having to tell their children what was happened. 31-year-old political activist Charlie Kirk was killed on Wednesday, during a speech at a Utah Valley University event.

He had been speaking about gun violence, when he himself was shot. It was later confirmed he had died from his injuries. Charlie left behind a wife called Erika, and two young children.

Charlie and Erika got married in 2021. They share two children, a daughter born in August 2022, and a son born in May 2024. Erika Kirk is a former Miss Arizona USA and basketball player, who is currently studying for a doctorate in Biblical studies at Liberty University.

Now, a friend and colleague of Charlie’s has said Erika is leaning into her faith following Charlie’s death, and is struggling to come to terms with the fact she is going to have to tell the children what happened.

Jack Posobiec, who is a contributor to Turning Point USA, of which Charlie Kirk was founder, has spoken out. “Erika is unbelievably strong. At the same time someone’s going to have to explain to his son and daughter why their dad didn’t come home yesterday,” he told NewsNation.

“Erika is a prayer warrior, her and Charlie are very devout believers, they are very very deeply Christian. When you see the cameras turn off, the lights go down, they immediately go back to faith – this is something they live 24/7. It is not something that only exists in front of the camera, that is something that they absolutely walk every single day.

“Because they have that firm reliance in faith, [Erika] has that ability to be able to go through this with that kind of strength that really only comes from heaven.”

Beau Mason, commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, added that Erika and the family are “devastated”. He said: “I can only imagine what they’re going through. This is not Utah. This is not what we are known for.”
