Messy split to near-death experience: All the things that have gone wrong for Katy Perry
Who cursed Katy Perry? Own up now!
Dear reader, why does the universe have it out for Katy Perry? She was once one of the leading pop girlies alongside Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande, but 20 years after her debut track, I Kissed a Girl, things are looking less and less like a Teenage Dream and more like a certified flop.
Don’t get me wrong, celebrity careers are always a series of peaks and troughs – just look at Pamela Anderson, because she is once again out there, booking gigs, making that money, and apparently dating Liam Neeson?! Props to her, but Katy Perry has not been so lucky in recent years.
1. Katy Perry’s messy split from Orlando Bloom

Perhaps the biggest Katy Perry story of the year has been her chaotic split from Orlando Bloom. The decision was allegedly made at the start of the year, but both parties kept it a secret to maintain appearances and manage co-parenting their daughter, Daisy Bloom.
“They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect,” their reps finally confirmed after weeks of speculation.
2. Now a HUGE actress is coming for her man
Following the messy split, as Orlando instantly returned to his former bachelor lifestyle, sources claimed that a major Hollywood actress has her eyes on Katy’s former man. That woman was former Brangelina victim Jennifer Aniston.
“It’s open knowledge within her friend group that they got very, very close on more than one occasion, and she’s always raved about him being her ideal type,” the source said.
2. The universe literally tried to take her out

To make matters even worse, the universe fully tried to murder Katy Perry during a performance of Roar. She was straddling a giant mechanical butterfly at the time, following in the footsteps of renowned aerial artist Pink, when it fell to the side and dropped her several feet. Ever the performer, Katy carried on like nothing had happened despite being visibly shaken.
3. A trip to space was not out of this world

Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space launch was supposed to be thee celebrity event of the decade, sparking a wave of famous faces making their way to outer space. Unfortunately, just about everyone HATED the clear show of greed and wealth, and poor Katy did not see the backlash coming, so much so that she was intending to base her entire tour around space. She changed it at the last minute.
4. The internet is now kind to her
someone on TikTok said Benson Boone should go on a tour with Katy Perry so they could call it "The Flip Flop Tour" cause he flips and she flops 😭 pic.twitter.com/ZBNTYOm7YH

Flop after flop basically turned Katy Perry into the internet’s punching bag as people ripped into just about everything she did. If she so much as looked in the wrong direction, Twitter was lying in wait to memeify the hell out of her blunder.
“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed. What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth,” she later responded.
“I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that co I’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, I’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but… I get back up and go on and continue to play the game, and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure, I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS.”
5. Her music career has been… something

Over the course of her career, Katy Perry has brought us iconic tracks such as Dark Horse, California Gurls, Part of Me, E.T, and Last Friday Night. Unfortunately, her more recent playbook has been plagued with forgettable, cheesy, and soulless songs. Personally, I’m convinced her downfall was kick-started by the 2017 track Swish Swish.
Her most recent album, 143, was given a shocking score of 37 by Metacritic, and the leading track, Woman’s World, was condemned as performative trash.
It might be a Woman’s World, but it’s just not Katy Perry’s.
