Get your trumpets ready because King Charles III is coming to Lancaster today

The monarch will be given keys to Lancaster Castle during his visit

King Charles III is visiting Lancaster today (Monday, 9th June 2025) and marking his first visit to the city since being crowned King.

The King, who is also the Duke of Lancaster will tour the Lancaster Castle, where he will be given the keys to the Castle

The monarch will then go on to attend a reception with a range community organisations and meet with local business owners.

Upon his arrival, King Charles will be greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Amanda Parker, due her status as the King’s representative in Lancashire.

Mrs Amanda Parker JP has expressed delight over his arrival. She claims to be excited to show him to Lancastrian businesses and community organisations. She has said his visit is “a very special occasion” for Lancashire as a county.

His majesty will then visit the historic Lancaster Castle. During this visit, he will participate in an ancient ceremony and will officially be presented with the Keys to the Castle. This will be done by Mrs Pam Barker DL, in front of the John O’Gaunt Gate.

After this, he will be able to meet with representatives from local businesses, and will apparently be joining a reception involving a number of organisations from around Lancaster.

Last time he was in Lancashire was in 2022, when he went to Morecambe Fire Station and the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, having met with both community organisations and businesses while there.

The best view for spectators is reportedly the Castle Hill area, but restrictions are in place to ensure safety of the crowd.

Road closures

A number of roads in Lancaster are due to be closed. Barriers are put into place to allow visitors to see the King. A number of organisations are working together to ensure that the event runs smoothly. Road closures and divisions will be taking place near Lancaster Castle. There will be brief rolling road closures during his visit today. Parking at St Mary’s parade is suspended until after 9pm on Monday, 9th June.

Businesses and residents located near Lancaster Castle have been sent letters, informing them of restrictions. Lancaster City Council have also said that, ‘Dallas Road car park will be closed from 6am to 6pm on Monday 9th June except by prior arrangement.’

Lancaster is expected to be very busy today, and anyone in the area is expected to bear this in mind, particularly if they are intending on making any journeys in or out of the area.
