Nick Offerman’s response to homophobes using anti-pride Parks and Rec meme is perfect

The savage ally we all need

I don’t know if you’re unfortunate enough to have to spend any time over on Twitter / X these days, and if you are, I apologise. We all remember the halcyon days when it was actually a bit of a haven for LGBTQ+ people, where the Twitter higher ups cracked down on hatred and bigotry with admirable speed. It isn’t like that anymore, and anyone who wants to slam LGBTQ+ people can post anti gay, anti pride content as much as they like. But not if Nick Offerman has anything to do with it – as the legendary actor just went viral for his response to a pride flag meme after someone dared to use a Parks and Rec picture of him in a homophobic way. And it’s brilliant.

Nick Offerman is the ally we NEED

The fact it’s now pride month has brought out the worst people being their usual worst self. One tweeted an edited gif showing Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation seemingly throwing a pride flag into the trash. The tweet said “Just want to show how I feel about pride month”.

Nick Offerman was NOT having it, and quoted the tweet with his now viral response showing his pride and saying “Ron was best man at a gay wedding, you dumb f*ck. #HappyPride”.

This is a reference to Parks and Rec’s acclaimed Ron and Diane episode, which sees Ron Swanson step up to help his friend Jean-Ralphio out at his gay wedding. The episode has always received a lot of praise for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters. God, I miss Parks and Rec so much.

Thank god we’ve got people like Nick Offerman being vocal allies. He’s actually always stood by us, and his work with Murray Bartlett in their acclaimed episode of The Last of Us too focusing on that touching gay romance in the middle of the apocalypse will always stay with so many of us.
