Award winning Edinburgh bar set to open nightclub in former Boteco venue

Paradise Palms already operates next door and will expand into the nightclub venue

The trendy cocktail bar Paradise Palms is set to expand into the former Boteco do Brasil venue after it announced its closure last month.

The pub has not submitted a planning application for the move, but has began hiring for the new venue with a job advertised on Indeed for “Front of house staff – New bar and club”.

Boteco, a restaurant, bar and nightclub popular with university sports societies mysteriously closed last month claiming on its Instagram that the move was “not our choice”. It closed its doors on May 3 but the brand will continue to host various pop up events in Edinburgh.

Locals and students will likely welcome the move however, with Paradise Palms also being a popular spot for society meetings and post-library pints.

Its restaurant has won vegetarian restaurant of the year twice (2017 and 2023) and is known for its vibrant late night events like comedy shows, cabaret, spoken word performances and live music nights.

The job description is listed as 45-47 Lothian Street, the former address of Boteco do Brasil. Situated across the road from The University of Edinburgh’s main campus it has the opportunity to become a student hot-spot.

The owners, Paradise Bars said in the advertisement: “Paradise Bars are launching a multi-level venue and are hiring for front of house positions in a business covering an all-day bar and a 3am licenced nightclub and event space including supervisors and floor staff with specific importance given to product quality, staff development and community.

“We are forging a dynamic team of 15-20 staff with enthusiastic expertise in food, drink, customer service, events, and the local creative scene, who strive for excellence, enhancing every guest’s experience. This is a golden opportunity to become part of a brand-new venue from its infancy, utilising your skills and experience to play a part our vision of becoming a thriving and influential venue in the heart of Edinburgh.

“We’re serious about creating great food, quality mixed drinks, delivering service that beats expectations, showcasing innovative music and curating an experience guests will remember and shout about.
