Edinburgh student spot shut as gas leak sparks emergency response
Emergency services raced to South Bridge and Hunter Square and power was cut to nearby properties as a precaution
A popular Edinburgh haunt saw a major emergency service response after concerns of a gas leak were reported on Saturday.
The Tron pub situated on Hunter Square was cordoned off as fire service personnel attend the scene.
A major emergency service response involving two ambulance service incident response units, two fire engines and a police force van and car were seen at the scene around 6pm.
Power had been out in parts of the EH1 area from early in the morning affecting properties and traffic on the busy South Bridge road as traffic lights were turned off.
Residents had originally been told that power would be reconnected around 2pm. Updates were subsequently made to suggest 9:45pm and later 11:59pm before being updated to suggest early on Sunday morning.
Scottish Power have confirmed electricity has since been restored.
It is currently unclear if this wire fault is connected to the emergency service call out.
Fire service personnel were seen entering The Tron wearing gas masks while police officers maintained a perimeter around the pub.
A police officer on the scene told The Tab that there had been a gas leak and that power had been cut as a precaution to prevent danger. When contacted Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said their teams were active on the scene and they had no further details.
The cordons were lifted around 7pm but The Tron remained closed with a police officer at the door.
The Tron has been approached for comment.
