The creepy real reason Netflix removed this Black Mirror episode over the weekend
We’re living in a simulation I’m sure of it
Over the weekend, Netflix removed the Bandersnatch episode of Black Mirror. And the reason behind it is a bit creepy, let’s say that.
Black Mirror is all about advances in technology, and giving us important life lessons about where society could go, if technology continues to advance the way it is currently. This weekend an episode was removed, and the reason appears to be linked to the ethos of the show.
Netflix always has to remove shows and films – but that’s usually because of licensing. Netflix original titles tend to be safe. But, 2018 Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch has just been removed. So, there will now be nowhere left to stream it. This comes just weeks after Plaything was released, an episode which is a continuation of the Bandersnatch story.
The episode was interactive, with different users experiencing different versions. It followed Stephan, a young programmer, as he tried to adapt a dark fantasy novel into an interactive video game. However, his version of reality blended with a murky dream-like state.

Previously, Netflix spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher told The Verge more of the reason for the cull. “The technology served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on technological efforts in other areas,” it was explained.
Served its purpose? So basically, we’ve learned our lessons from this episode, so now it’s going? Creepy, right?

At the same time, Netflix has also removed an interactive episode of comedy series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. What’s on Netflix has reported the interactive specials were removed as it makes more of a move towards mobile gaming. The publication claimed: “Their departure will mark the end of Netflix’s era of interactive stories as it transitions to Cloud and mobile gaming exclusively.”
But, is it just because the interactive episodes take up a lot of space and are harder for Netflix to keep running? Maybe.
