Cute, romantic, existential dread—Black Mirror’s version of a romcom. Critics loved it, even if some people think it’s just “San Junipero Lite.” Regardless, it makes the top 10 for being one of the few times the show gave us hope.

9. San Junipero (92 per cent)

Absolutely iconic. Critics and viewers agree this was the moment Black Mirror proved it could do heartwarming just as well as it does harrowing. Also, “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” now has an entirely new meaning.

8. Joan Is Awful (94 per cent)

The episode that dragged Netflix harder than anyone else ever has—on Netflix. A meta-satirical fever dream with a killer performance from Annie Murphy. Add Salma Hayek Pinault being unhinged and it’s no wonder critics ate it up.

7. Be Right Back (93 per cent)

This one hits different now. A slow, haunting episode about grief, love, and AI—aka our current reality. Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson gave us a soft, quiet nightmare that lingers long after the credits roll.

6. Nosedive (95 per cent)

Back when everything looked like it was filtered through an Instagram preset—Nosedive predicted the influencer era and social rating systems before they became a real thing. Bryce Dallas Howard carried, and the pastel dystopia still slaps.

5. USS Callister (95 per cent)

Oh! This one is a total game changer. Jesse Plemons absolutely nails it as the creepy yet tragic tech genius who holds his virtual world hostage. With its thrilling storyline and biting social commentary, it’s no surprise this one’s earned such a high rating.

4. Demon 79 (100 per cent)

demon 79

The wild card no one expected to be this high. A campy horror throwback that felt like Carrie meets Black Mirror via Doctor Who. It’s got vibes, it’s got murder, and somehow it has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Critics clearly had a blast.

3. Fifteen Million Merits (100 per cent)

The blueprint. Reality TV satire, emotional trauma, and Daniel Kaluuya’s scream-cry monologue. Everything that makes Black Mirror great is packed into this episode. It’s art. Full stop.

2. USS Callister: Into Infinity (100 per cent)

The sequel we didn’t think we needed… but somehow nailed it. It kept everything great about the original and actually elevated it. Critics went feral for this one—and fair enough.

1. The National Anthem (100 per cent)

via Netflix

The OG that made everyone either commit to the show or tap out completely. It’s disturbing, bold, unforgettable—and according to Rotten Tomatoes, still the best Black Mirror episode ever made. No one who watched this slept well after.
