The ultimate guide to the best roast dinners in Birmingham
Save yourself the cooking this Sunday and explore the best roasts in Brum!
Sunday: The day of rest, and what better way to treat yourself than to a roast dinner in sunny Birmingham? As a student it is near impossible to replicate that perfect home-cooked roast we long for during the long winter months, especially when sharing a tiny kitchen between so many hungry housemates.
So why not venture out for the ultimate hangover cure after a busy Saturday night on Broad Street? Or save these places to look like a roast connoisseur when your parents come up to visit. Whether you are begging for beef, clucking for chicken, or nuts for a nut roast, The Birmingham Tab has been hunting down the top roasts of the second city.
So, here are our recommendations.
Pasture, City Centre
If you’re fancying a posh roast, then Pasture is the place to go.
Unlike other steakhouses, you choose your meat then choose whether you’d like a la carte sides or to have it as a roast dinner.
Whilst it may be a tad more pricy than other roast dinner offerings, the quality of the food is incredible, and the ambience is top notch.
Isaacs at The Grand Hotel, City Centre
You may think this doesn’t look like a big roast dinner but don’t let your eyes fool you. Not only does Isaac’s provide an ample portion of beef and roasties but their Yorkshires are also filled with meat too!
The staff are more than happy to bring over extra gravy, to which I of course obliged, and their veggie options are also great, including a vegetable tart and a beetroot gnocchi.
I’d also recommend their truffled cauliflower cheese too, if you’re feeling boujie.
You can find their full Sunday menu here.

The Plough’s beef roast – sensational
The Plough does a beef roast or mushroom and courgette wellington alongside their usual lunch menu on a Sunday. Served with puddings the size of Yorkshire, a selection of seasonal veg, and washed down with a pint of Aspall, you pretty much have the perfect plate.
Also, their sirloin served pink is a must for anyone who likes their beef still mooing! The pub only has a limited number of their popular roasts though so you will have to be quick. Maybe cut back on the Sunday morning lie in?

The White Swan, Edgbaston
The White Swan offers guests not one, not two, but a Trio of Meats option if you simply cannot choose. They say good things come in threes and this provides more than enough chicken, beef, and pork for two people to share. We even ended up with leftovers!
For those after a vegetarian option, The White Swan also does a fig and dolcelatte roast. Unfortunately, our camera was not quick enough to capture this meal but you can take our word for it that this roast is top-tier. The cosy pub is located within walking distance of the Vale Village and Pritchatt’s Park, so UoB freshers: Take note.

Bar and Block, City Centre

Beef roast from Bar and Block
After reconnecting with nature in Pigeon Park, Bar and Block’s roast is the perfect reward for getting those steps in.
Once again proving that a steakhouse’s roast dinner is not to be missed, their roast menu boasts both beef and chicken. Not only that, but they offer three different cuts of their signature beef.
Bar and Block also provides a festive touch to their roast dinners by offering pigs in blankets as a side year-round, who says they are just for Christmas?
For those after a student loan friendly drink to go alongside, this city centre steakhouse serves two-for-one cocktails, so bring a friend and toast to surviving another week!
