The Edinburgh Tab is looking for 2025/26 editors: Audacity preferred, experience optional

Do you have a big mouth and a Wi-Fi connection?

Edinburgh students: Are you interested in a career in journalism? Look no further, as The Edinburgh Tab has officially opened applications for the upcoming year’s editorial team, and we’re seeking sharp, creative people to join us.

Join a team that moves quickly, writes promptly, and occasionally remembers to post their nights out to the correct account. If you have sharp-witted instincts, a knack for content-making, and the ability to turn student chaos into something worth reading, keep doing so.

Applications are open for these roles: Co-Editor-in-Chief, News Editor, Features Editor, Social Media Editor and TikTok Editor.

Journalism experience is not necessary, but is encouraged. Training will be provided to successful applicants from The Tab HQ, but being part of the editorial team means serious commitment – make sure you thoroughly consider that you will be able to bring your all to the team.

Applications from all students are welcome regardless of previous experience, year, or degree, but you must attend a university in Edinburgh.

The deadline for submitting applications is next Friday, 2nd May.

Co-Editor-in-Chief

Taking on the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief means stepping into a key leadership position within the Edinburgh Tab. You’ll shape the direction of the publication, work closely with sub-editors and writers, and support the platform’s continued growth.

You should be prepared to write your pieces throughout the year and help the team break the biggest stories on campus. You will also be in charge of ensuring all content, both written and social, is consistent with The Edinburgh Tab’s standard of quality and tone of voice.

You will also be a primary point of contact to The Tab HQ and be supported by the team at HQ in running The Edinburgh Tab team and leading your team’s engagements and meetings.

The role is incredibly rewarding and a great experience, leading a large team in a fast-paced and exciting environment. To fit this role, you should be friendly and supportive to new and existing writers, thoroughly edit articles and have a keen eye for the stories that will make an impact and hit a chord with students across campus.

This might be your role if you are proficient in leadership, care about representing all student voices, and have excellent organisational skills.

News Editor

As News Editor for The Edinburgh Tab, you will be in charge of publishing the news stories. News is unpredictable and fast paced, meaning you must be able to work quickly and efficiently when stories happen.

You should have a keen eye for topical student news: Think about student-led protests or getting information when a lecturer does something shocking that is worth talking about.

You’ll be in charge of editing and publishing all news stories promptly.

Features Editor

As Features Editor, you’ll be responsible for writing and editing the most fun and ridiculous feature pieces.

You’ll be able to cover every aspect of student life from nightlife to fashion and food. There’s a lot of room to be creative in this role; we want someone witty, opinionated and knowledgeable about what’s relevant to students.

An ideal Features Editor will be up to date with campus gossip and trends, creating niche and relatable content for our viewers.

Social Media Editor

As Social Media Editor, you’ll have creative control over our social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).

You will be aware of the latest trends, memes, and aesthetics and generate creative ideas to help develop our Instagram page even further. We want you to keep up with our iconic Monday Matchmaking and introduce your content so that The Edinburgh Tab can become recognisable for it.

You’ll be making content like this:

Edinburgh’s influence and impact across campus rely on a top-notch social media game. This job is suited to someone who loves the ins and outs of social media and wants to gain some real experience (which looks great on your CV).

Experience with Canva and other editing software is needed for this role for creating posts.

TikTok Editor

We’re looking to continue growing The Edinburgh Tab TikTok page and want someone to continue growing the page and our followers. You must consider creative ways to incorporate the latest TikTok trends and audio into relatable Edinburgh content and expand on our already successful interview format. This role suits someone outgoing, happy to talk to other students, and loves creating fun TikTok content.

You’ll be making content like this:

@theedinburghtab
