Influencer fuming after $600-a-month LA gym wouldn’t let her in because of her Instagram

An influencer felt ‘so mad’ an expensive LA gym denied her membership after looking through her Instagram.

Brooke Schofield has 2 million followers on TikTok and 840,000 followers on Instagram. On her podcast Cancelled, she described an incident at a high-end Los Angeles gym that made her feel “embarrassed” and “violated”.

Brooke and her influencer friend Maddie attempted to join an LA gym where the membership is apparently $600 (£474) a month. That works out at $7,200 (£5,693) a year. She rocked up at reception in her “pilates princess outfit”.

The receptionist (who Brooke repeatedly referred to as a “b*tch”) first upset Brooke by asking her to fill in an online form before using the gym. Brooke said, “I felt so embarrassed. Like, ‘My bad for thinking you can show up to a gym and sign up there!’ She made me feel that was the stupidest thought anyone’s ever had in life.”

Brooke was confused she had to apply to use the gym, because she’d assumed that if you paid somewhere enough money, you’d just be able to join. She said: “In my head, I know how expensive it was, so I was like, ‘If you apply, there’s a process you probably have to interview for and stuff. But if you can pay for it, I’m assuming that you can join.”

The online form asks for someone’s name email address and Instagram handle. Brooke was reluctant to give the gym this information. “I felt like I just got violated”. Brooke and Maddie applied at the exact same time. Maddie got accepted into the gym, but Brooke didn’t. She concluded the gym must have denied her because they didn’t like the vibe of her Instagram.

Brooke is still upset by the incident. “I’m so mad at her still because just the way that she talked to me was so condescending… I’m going to write the lengthiest, craziest review about that d*mb b*tch at the front.”

She added, “I will never forget her. No one has ever made me feel so stupid.”
