Gabby Petito’s parents reveal alarming unseen texts to Brian in interview after Netflix doc
They also shared a letter that’s never been seen before
All four of Gabby Petito’s parents have spoken out in a new interview after the American Murder Netflix documentary, and they’ve revealed some new information almost four years on.
Her mum, dad, step-mum and step-dad spoke to ABC’s 20/20 and shared some chilling messages they found on Gabby’s phone that have never been seen before.
The texts detail an alarming conversation between the 22-year-old and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie while they were dating, before she was tragically murdered in August 2021.
“Don’t try to control me because it only makes me mad,” Gabby wrote. “I love you so much but it’s the way you speak to me that hurts me the most.”
They also found a letter that Gabby had written to her boyfriend, which further shows how Brian was sadly mistreating Gabby during their relationship.
“Brian you know how much I love you. Just please stop crying and stop calling me names. You in pain is killing me,” she said.
In the interview, Gabby’s mum Nichole was asked what she thought about her daughter’s boyfriend, and she surprisingly answered: “I liked Brian.”
“I thought he was – interesting. He was very soft-spoken. He would sit and do art with Gabby’s younger sisters. He got along with TJ, her brother, and he just seemed like a nice person.”
“Very respectful. He always came in, shook a hand, was nice, just quiet. He was just a quiet person,” her step-dad Jim added.

However, Gabby’s dad Joseph said he was annoyed when they found out the pair were engaged through Facebook, saying he would have liked Brian to ask him for her hand in marriage.
“I’m an old-school person, and as an old-school person the one thing you do is you go up to the father of the person you wanna marry and you ask him for their hand in marriage,” he said.
“That didn’t happen. We found out on Facebook. All of us did,” he continued. However, they ultimately wanted their daughter to be happy.
