The latest American Murder Netflix documentary has brought attention to Gabby Petito’s tragic story once again.

The 22-year-old was murdered by her boyfriend Brian Laundrie in August 2021 while they were travelling across the United States in a van.

Her parents feature in the documentary a lot to narrate the devastating events, and there’s a small clip of her brother too.

“It was the worst feeling I ever felt. I definitely broke down, like really hard. I don’t honestly even know if it’s still fully hit me,” he recalled.

Gabby has six siblings in total, including full siblings and half-siblings, and she is the oldest.

Her parents Joe Petito and Nichole Schmidt both remarried, so she has a very big family. Gabby’s stepmum is Tara Petito and her stepdad is Jim Schmidt.

She only has one full sibling, brother TJ Schmidt, and he is the only one whose name is known. All of her half-siblings remain private, likely due to their ages as they all appear to be quite young.

Some children are shown in the Netflix documentary when the family travels to Wyoming to scatter her ashes.

TJ’s Instagram is full of emotional posts about Gabby, including one from when she was still missing.

“The grueling search from my older sister continues every day. If you can help please do,” he wrote.

When her remains were found, he shared a picture of a rainbow over the spot and said: “She touched the world.”

Another post of them as kids is captioned: “I love you so much Gabbs. Idk what to do anymore.”

He has also posted numerous other pictures wishing his sister a Happy Birthday and expressing how much he misses her.

“Love you so much Gabbs Ik this is late but happy birthday I miss you more then words can describe,” one says.

Another adds: “Been missing you so much lately love you forever Gabs.”

He also wrote: “I can’t believe it’s been a year without you. It doesn’t feel real sometimes still. Hope you continue to inspire and light up the world.”
