
University of Nottingham’s gymnastics team bring home multiple medals from BUCS tournament
The women’s team finished second overall with the men’s team claiming the title
The University of Nottingham’s men and women’s gymnastics teams attended the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition in early February and managed to claim medals in the men and women’s groups as well as some students claiming individual medals.
The championship took place on the 1st and 2nd of February not too far from Nottingham, in Leicester.
The university has said the team “delivered fantastic displays”, with a host of medals and multiple top three finishes.
The first and second grade women’s teams came second overall with three individual medals amongst the team. Izzy Whittaker secured gold on the beam in grade two, Chloe Porter claimed silver in grade two floor and Louise Akers took bronze in grade one floor.
The men’s teams won six medals between them, raking in 106 points overall and leaving them in first place overall, five points clear of Loughborough in second place.
The team’s leader, Luke Marsh, won gold in the grade one all round category, as well as the high bar and on floor. He also secured two silver medals in grade 1 parallel bars and on the pommel horse.
His teammates secured a host of medals as well. Zach Armstrong secured first place in the grade two vault as well as a second place in the grade two pommel horse. Additionally, Rory Tann claimed silver in the grade one vault.
The teams left with 11 medals overall and two team medals.
The president of the club told the uni that “the club are all buzzing after the success of our BUCS weekend! The hard work is paying off and we’re so proud of all our competitors.”
According to the university, it looks forwards to any future successes of the club for the rest of the season.

The society’s next competition will be on its home turf in Nottingham for the Notts open on 9th March for the UGC North competition before the finals weekend.
