I asked ChatGPT to come up with the plot of the Buffy reboot and the results don’t slay
Good effort pal but let’s leave it to the professionals
With Buffy the Vampire Slayer coming back for a reboot and Sarah Michelle Gellar all hands on deck trying to make it happen at Hulu, inevitably fans are obsessing about what actually could happen in it. When we last saw Buffy and pals, she’d just defeated the First Evil at the end of season seven – and took the entire town of Sunnydale down with it. After not only losing friends in that battle, but also using the scythe combined with Willow’s spell to active any potential Slayer across the globe to be as powerful as she is – the world we’ll return to in Buffy is going to be greatly different. Whilst we’ll have to wait a while to see what happens in the Buffy reboot, I decided to ask our old pal ChatGPT AI to come up with a potential plot idea to see if it sounded any good.
Whilst AI could never do what a human can bring to art and scripts when it comes to originality and creativity, it is interesting to see what ChatGPT gives you when you ask for it to come up with the Buffy reboot plot.
ChatGPT named the reboot Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Blood
A bit of a mouthful, but not the worst thing ever. Here’s a brief synopsis of what the AI gave me when I asked ChatGPT to come up with a Buffy reboot plot.
Most Read
“Set in a world where the Slayer line has expanded globally, there is a growing network of Slayers, each with their own powers and unique challenges. The age of Buffy Summers is now part of legend, and while she’s no longer the active Slayer, she remains a pivotal figure in the supernatural world. Buffy is a mentor to a new generation of Slayers and supernatural defenders who are grappling with their own lives in the face of a resurging, world-threatening evil.
The story focuses on a new group of characters, but Buffy’s presence serves as both a guide and reminder of what it means to carry the weight of being the Chosen One.”
Buffy will be back sure, but who are the new characters according to AI?
The main characters in the reboot if AI got its way would be the following. ChatGPT has clearly followed similar archetypes we’ve seen in Buffy to come up with these. Here’s the full rundown of what the AI gave me:
-
Cassidy “Cass” Marshall (New Slayer): Cass is a 16-year-old high school student who was recently activated as a Slayer. She is smart, athletic, and a bit of a social misfit, not fully fitting in with her peers. Raised by a single mother who has no idea about Cass’s true identity, Cass is forced to balance her Slayer duties with being a teenager, trying to keep her new identity hidden while facing supernatural threats that have started to plague her small town. Cass is headstrong and determined but often struggles with the isolation that comes with being a Slayer.
-
Milo Rivers (Watcher/Researcher): Milo is in his early 30s and a descendant of one of the Watchers who was loyal to the original Council. He’s a bookworm, highly knowledgeable about magical lore and demons, and is tasked with overseeing Cass’s training as her Watcher. Milo is a skeptic when it comes to magical power and relies more on intelligence and research. He has a dry sense of humor, and his knowledge often helps the group stay one step ahead of their enemies. Though he’s still figuring out his role in this new world of empowered Slayers, his calm demeanor and strong sense of duty make him a steadying force for the team.
-
Riley Moore (Demon-Hunter and Ex-Vampire): A former vampire who was turned in his early 20s but was later cursed with a soul, Riley is now a demon-hunter with a dark, haunted past. He acts as a sort of anti-hero figure—someone with knowledge of vampire culture but who chooses to fight them instead of joining them. He struggles with his nature and the damage done by his past actions. Riley has a rough exterior but is a passionate fighter for justice. He is an ally to Cass and Milo but has difficulty trusting others due to his past. His relationship with Cass is complex, as he sees the Slayer potential in her but also fears for her because of the life he’s led.
-
Alia Patel (Witch/Tech Specialist): Alia is a tech-savvy witch in her late 20s, who is able to combine her magical talents with her proficiency in computers and engineering. Raised in a family of powerful witches, Alia is a talented spellcaster who can manipulate magic through both traditional witchcraft and modern technology (she often uses enchanted tech gadgets). She acts as the team’s source of magical knowledge and a tactical planner. Despite her powerful abilities, Alia is trying to live a normal life and has a great sense of humor that lightens the group’s mood during intense moments. Alia’s complicated past involves a strained relationship with her family, who disapproved of her blending magic with technology.
-
Jax Calloway (Vampire Ally and Street Fighter): Jax is a vampire with a twist. He was turned by a different, less known, supernatural force in the Buffyverse, and his cursed existence is different from traditional vampires. Though he feeds on blood, he has a unique control over his urges and is trying to find redemption by aiding the team in their fight against evil. He’s in his early 30s and works as an underground fighter to stay off the radar. Jax becomes an unlikely but indispensable ally to the group, especially with his combat skills and knowledge of the darker supernatural world. However, the team must remain cautious as he is a vampire with an uncertain moral compass. His evolving relationship with Cass adds an emotional depth to the show.
What actually happens, according to AI?
ChatGPT AI came up with a pretty generic plot for the Buffy reboot, so let’s hope and pray the show pushes the boat out a little more. The AI gave me three acts which basically explain how Cass and the team of characters above in a small town meet Buffy who is adjusting to a more mentor like role.
The most interesting stance here is how Buffy feels alienated by the new world and struggles to figure out her place in it and fears she’s getting irrelevant.
The main arc is about a cult of demon summoners who are working to destroy to Seed of Wonder, where the power of the Slayers comes from and they hope to destroy the line – including Buffy and Cass. It’s a bit too similar to what The First was trying to do – in my opinion.
No Sunnydale?
Because the end of Buffy showed Sunnydale as a destroyed crater, the new reboot needs a similar iconic location – and ChatGPT AI came up with a new town for the plot to go down in. The new location is coastal, and it’s called Waverly Heights. I like the idea of it being super coastal – obviously we saw the sea in Sunnydale a fair bit but I’m imagining it more Cape Cod style. Like American Horror Story: Red Tide aesthetic? I’m into it.
