High school sweethearts to supermodels: A deepdive into Kanye West’s relationship history

Kanye West has had a very publicised dating life, from high school sweethearts to supermodels. From his first romance to now, every little detail of his relationships has been splashed on a front page of a magazine somewhere. Here’s a deepdive into Kanye West’s relationship history – it’s one hell of a list.

Sumeke Rainey

Before Kanye’s rap career ever blew up, he dated his high school sweetheart, Sumeke Rainey.

While their relationship stayed out of the media, he wrote about her on his song Never Let Me Down from his 2004 debut album, The College Dropout.

“Nothing sad as that day my girl’s father passed away/ So I promised to Mr. Rainey I’m gonna marry your daughter,” he wrote. However, their relationship ended as his fame hit new hieights.

Alexis Phifer

Kanye dated designer Alexis Phifer on and off from 2002 until 2008. The pair went through a rough patch when Kanye’s career skyrocketed in 2004 after the release of The College Dropout album. However they got back together, and in August 2006, the Kanye proposed to her over a lobster and pasta dinner while on holiday in Capri.

After an 18-month engagement, the pair split in April 2008.

“It’s always sad when things like this end, and we remain friends,” Alexis Phifer told People at the time of their split. “I wish him the best in his future and all of his endeavours. He’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever met.”

Brooke Crittendon was an MTV employee and a Harlem Heights star when she dated Kanye during one of his and Alexis’s splits. She went to the 2006 Grammys with him and his mother before they split that summer.

She added that the relationship ended on good terms. “Mr. West and I are amicable,” Crittendon told People. “I wish him the best, and he wishes me likewise. As far as I’m concerned, if he ever needed anything, I’d be there and [he would do] the same for me.”

Amber Rose

Amber Rose and Kanye dated TV personality and model Amber Rose from 2008 until 2010, after his split from Alexis. At the time, Amber Rose called their relationship off and later alleged that she endured “constant bullying” from West after they broke up.

Amber later married rapper Wiz Khalifa in 2013 and divorced him in 2016.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is Kanye’s longest relationship and first marriage. They welcomed North West in 2013, and have had two more kids, Chicago and Psalm, in 2018 and 2019.

They got married in 2014 in Italy and most of their marriage was documented on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Kim filed for divorce in 2021 after several ups and downs. After their divorce, Kanye posted a lot on social media regarding his ex-wife. It was pretty messy.

Irina Shayk

A few months after Kim filed for divorce from Kanye, he started dating Irina Shayk, a model who shares a daughter with Bradley Cooper. She’d previously modelled for Yeezy back in 2010. Their relationship didn’t last long and by August 2021 they had split up.

Julia Fox

Kanye’s relationship with Julia Fox was definitely one of the more controversial ones. The couple met on NYE 2021, but by Valentine’s Day in 2022, they had split.

Julia has made a lot of claims against Kanye since their relationship ended.

Chaney Jones

You guessed it, Kanye started dating another gorgeous model, Chaney Jones, in February 2022. They split after taking a trip to Japan in June that same year. Another short-lived moment.

Bianca Censori

Kanye and Bianca have been dating since 2022, but she’s been working at Yeezy as an architectural designer since November 2020.

In January 2023, Kanye and Bianca were spotted dining together at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. Later, TMZ reported the couple had secretly gotten married in a “private ceremony” and had even been photographed wearing wedding rings a day before their dinner date.

Their most controversial stunt was at the 2025 Grammys, and the pair are still standing strong together.
