Here’s a rundown of exactly how much a Grammy is worth, in dollars and not sentiment

I’d be flogging mine on Vinted

For any artist, winning a Grammy is obviously priceless. How can you put any money on a trophy that represents the most esteemed award in music – a true acknowledgement of achievement. Winning awards isn’t everything, but it’s hard to comprehend how validating it must be for one’s art to get the trophy that probably feels like a far off fantasy for any artist starting out. I imagine Chappell Roan winning one of the big four this year was momentous for her and her struggle to break through. But let’s for a time remove all that sentiment out of the picture and think on how much that trophy is ACTUALLY worth. Here’s how much a Grammy is worth – money wise.

So, you’ve won a Grammy – let’s sell it!

Okay, obviously a Grammy is worth a fortune because of the sentiment behind it and the fact they’re usually attached to mega pop stars – but how much does it cost to make? What is a Grammy made of? Lots of questions you might not have pondered before because you were too busy wooping for the fact Beyoncé finally got her long overdue Album of the Year trophy. But I have the answers for you.

Although they’re all shiny and gold, a Grammy is not made from gold. The Grammys official website declared that the trophy costs about $800 to make. That is including both the labour costs and the materials needed. Grammys are not made of gold but they are declared to be made of “Grammies”. This is a secret zinc alloy, then plated in 24 karat gold.

The first ever Grammy was made by Bob Graves. He then passed it onto his neighbour John Billings, who is known as the Grammy man for being the on to keep it in the current state we know it as today.

So if any of the rich and famous owners of Grammys want to flog their trophy collection, they should get $800 each. Not that they need it.
