Ariana Grande to Aurora: Celebs who slammed Donald Trump’s ‘two genders’ speech

So many Drag Race icons have spoken out

In case you somehow missed it, Donald Trump proclaimed at his inauguration, “As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.” He also signed an order which only recognises two sexes, and says ‘”sex’ is not a synonym for and does not include the concept of ‘gender identity'”. It appears Donald Trump mixed up the terms “sex” and “gender” in his speech.

Obviously, a lot of people are very, very unimpressed with this viewpoint. Loads of celebs have been really critical of this statement and are slamming Donald Trump. Thank the gods for Ariana Grande. Here’s a round-up of all the celebrities who have been extremely critical of Donald Trumps “two genders” speech.

Ariana Grande is deeply unimpressed

Our queen Ariana Grande is clearly not a fan of Donald Trump’s speech. She shared a post by the A Bit Fruity podcast host Matt Bernstein which said, “Okay, sure, whatever you say. But let’s be very clear: queer and trans people were here before Donald Trump and will continue to be here after he’s dead. Whether or not you want us to exist is secondary to the simple fact that we do. The sun does not care if you sign an executive order telling it to stop rising each morning. It just continues to rise.” What a quote, honestly.

She also shared a post by the charity Advocates for Trans Equality. It read, ”

Ariana Grande is a vocal supporter of trans rights. She’s donated lots of money to helping trans youth in Arizona, and has encouraged others to do the same.

The singer Aurora wrote she’s in ‘deep sorrow’

Aurora isn’t even American, but she’s said more about the issue than most American celebs.

She wrote on her Instagram, “To all my [transgender) friends, coworkers, and in general all the beautiful members of the trans community in the USA, which I haven’t had the pleasure to meet yet.

“I am in deep sorrow of how you have been failed by your own government.

“The right to be seen and heard is truly important. And the right to be who we truly are, is vital.

“I want you to know that my heart is with you. And my concern with the way the world is moving is deepened. The fear of the unknown, and the fear of what is different is not something we’re born with. It’s learnt.

“And I hope once again – we’ll remain reminded of the power of love and the power of people.

“May we never stop, in our humble request, to be free in who we are, and how we want to live our lives.”

Lots of Drag Race icons have criticised Trump

Michelle Visage, the head judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, has criticised Donald Trump. She posted a clip of Trump’s speech to her Instagram story, and wrote, “YOU WILL NOT ERASE MY CHILD POS.” Michelle has a queer child, who she previously told PinkNews “is basically transitioning”. She then shared a series of motivational quotes to her Instagram story, including one saying “When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn’t become a king. The palace becomes a circus” and another that read “I mourn for the future we should have had”.

Michelle also reposted a quote from the head of GLAAD, which said, “Together we must hold the incoming administration to the promise of equal justice under law, and resist threats to our basic American right to live freely and with dignity.”

Other Drag Race stars reacted to GLAAD’s post about the speech.

Cynthia Lee Fontaine commented, “Trash. But we will continue to ensure we will continue with our rights. We will NOT be silent.” Niecy Nash added a negative gif.

Lucy Dacus from boygenius is donating money to trans people who need help

Lucy Dacus (the singer who is one-third of boygenius) has responded to Trumps’ speech by pledging money to help people get gender-affirming surgery.

She wrote on X, “If trans people wanna comment surgery GoFundMes, I’m gonna give away $10k in $500 increments until it’s gone, and if other people want to scroll through and make donations, please do.

“The government will never be the source of our validation or protection, we have to do it ourselves.”
