Charisma Carpenter just dragged viral Buffy TikTok take about Buffy and Cordelia’s friendship

There’s a very divisive hot take doing the rounds on TikTok right now, with one theory about the iconic character of Cordelia Chase in relation to Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and how their iconic frenemy status might have actually left Cordelia as the best friend to Buffy on the show. Whilst it does sound jarring to think of Cordelia being a better friend to Buffy than someone like Willow or Xander – the video makes good points, until Charisma Carpenter who portrayed Cordelia in the show completely slammed it.

Cordelia is one of the more complex characters in Buffy. She starts out as a surface level school mean girl, but evolves quickly into a reluctant ally of Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles and then by the time she departs at the end of season three she is an integral albeit sardonic member of the group. Her hero trajectory then on Angel is even more profound. But quite often it’s discussed whether Cordelia is a friend to Buffy or just sort of… there.

In a TikTok posted to Charisma Carpenter’s own Instagram, TV discusser ryanbtalksTV explains how Cordelia might not be the nicest but she is kind and there for Buffy a lot and a brutal but good friend t0 her. He explains “She holds it down for us, the friends who are not nice but are kind. The ones that will read you down but will have your back no matter what. The way Cordelia shows up for Buffy when she is down and out, the way she beat up her boyfriend to save Buffy, she showed up to give Buffy a ride home with no questions asked. This woman always has Buffy’s back.

“Will read Buffy the hell down, but even when Buffy’s own besties are not there Cordelia is right there. Every single time.”

Charisma then responded to a similar sentiment in her own TikTok regarding whether Cordelia was a good friend to Buffy on the show.

“This is an unpopular take,” She explained. “This is gonna cause some controversy. You really think so? You think Cordy was a better friend to Buffy than the Scoobies? I’m going to need a bullet point dissertation on how you think that might be true.”

The comments then go mad on how it is actually true, bringing up the horrendous moment in season seven where every single character (except Spike) kicks Buffy out of her own home. Cordelia would have NEVER let that happen.
