Leonardo DiCaprio slated for fleeing the Los Angeles fires on his private jet

He’s previously been hailed a ‘climate warrior’

Leonardo DiCaprio has been slated for fleeing the Los Angeles fires on his private jet. Leonardo and his model girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, were spotted landing in Mexico on a private jet while LA homes and landmarks continue to burn down.

Many people have criticised him for using a private jet during the major environmental disaster, especially one affecting his own community. It also took people by surprise as Leonardo DiCaprio is the founder of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which has funded over $80 million in grants towards projects tackling climate change and promoting sustainability.

He also uses his huge social media presence to bring awareness to environmental issues and rarely posts anything other than climate-related topics.

As well as his girlfriend, he was accompanied by his father George and Geroge’s wife Peggy Ann Farrar. Leo was dressed in a casual baseball cap and hoodie as he got off the plane.

It’s been reported that Leonardo’s Los Angeles home burned down in the wildfires, along with many other celebs.

More than 100,000 people have been evacuated and many celebrity homes have burned down since the fires began. The three main wildfires, in Palisades, Hurst and Eaton began on Tuesday but another small fire erupted in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday. It started at around 6pm local time but has been quickly moving since then. It’s engulfed more than 40 acres of land so far.

The devastating wildfires are still blazing through Los Angeles, and strong winds and dry weather across California are making the perfect environment for the fires to spread at rapid rates. Pasadena fire chief Chad Augustin also told the BBC that the fires might “take off” again on Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

In total, the wildfires have swept through 40,306 acres, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has revealed.
