Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber are being dragged for getting sushi during the LA fires
People are calling them ‘tone deaf’ and ‘so out of touch’
While the Pacific Palisades were on fire, Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber went out for sushi at a fancy Los Angeles restaurant. The internet is not especially impressed with their behaviour.
On Tuesday 7th January, which was the first day of the LA fires, Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and a few of their friends met up for dinner. They went to the Sushi Park restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. A meal there typically costs between $150 to $250 (£120 to £200) per person, excluding tax. The pair were extensively paparazzied on their way to the restaurant.
Meanwhile, 200 acres of Los Angeles were on fire. Water bomber aircraft were using seawater from the Pacific Ocean to douse the flames. Most of the state of California was under a red flag warning, which means there is an extremely high risk of dangerous fires. People in Los Angeles had been warned not to do anything which could risk starting a fire, or leave their houses unless necessary. The houses of several celebrities were on fire.
Hailey Bieber did post on her Instagram story about the fires later that evening.
People were not impressed that Kendall and Hailey chose to go out for sushi on the day that the LA fires started.
A Reddit user wrote, “Hey – they posted their obligatory wild fire posts, girls gotta work!”
“I have been watching the fire coverage and the LA fire dept. has said to try to not go anywhere if you don’t have to,” someone wrote on Reddit, “I guess sushi was mandatory. I grew up in LA and it breaks my heart to see this all of this devastation.”
