A deep dive into Ariana Grande’s vibey new Glindacore rebrand post-Wicked

Out with the spray tan, in with the rambling Insta stories about gratitude

Ariana Grande is in a whole new era. I swear at the Golden Globes last night, she looked more like Daphne Bridgerton than her 2019 self. Here’s an unnecessarily detailed deep dive into Ariana Grande’s new rebrand. It’s her world and we’re all living in it and I’m totally okay with that.

She’s officially ditched the iconic ponytail

Gone are the days when Ariana Grande had a brown ponytail longer than my to-do list. We all thought her shorter, blonder hair was just for Wicked. But she seems to be holding space for the Glinda aesthetic long after production on Wicked has wrapped. Her outfits have a totally different vibe – much more girlycore and whimsical and elegant. Ariana Grande’s look at the 2025 Golden Globes was very much giving “I’m so nervous to leave my small town daisy farm for this 1800s fairy ball”, but in a good way.

She loves a spiritual poetical Instagram essay

Once upon a time, Ariana Grande’s vocabulary extended very little beyond “yuh”. Now she seems to spend all her spare time writing small essays on gratitude and mindfulness. There are more metaphors and similes on her Instagram story than there are in a GCSE English literature set poem. Seriously, in the last month alone she’s called herself “a specimen in a petri dish”, said Cynthia Erivo is “so deserving of this, of every flower in the garden, of 9 million tulips at least”, and referred to the Wicked press tour “the other side of the rainbow”.

She wrote a whole “literal eulogy” for a bubble prop in Wicked (?). I have no clue what she’s on about but it sounds very deep and meaningful.

Her voice is totally unrecognisable

Obviously, Ariana’s vocals on Eternal Sunshine and in Wicked were just as fire as ever. But she sounds totally different in interviews now. She’s been speaking in a higher voice in general to protect her vocal chords. But her voice now sometimes switches between her normal speaking voice and an even higher, Glinda-ified one.

She told Vanity Fair that her Glinda voice “might stay” and she might keep speaking permenantly like Glinda? She said, “Maybe people underestimate how long we spent finding and disappearing into these women, so when certain inflections or mannerisms take time to melt away, sometimes people poke fun.”

Ariana added, “Galinda required a lot of vocal work for me. Certain things maybe won’t melt away. Some will, but I’m really grateful for the pieces that will stay with us forever. What a beautiful thing to be left with, and to feel the ghost of every day.”

Ariana Grande’s rebrand is trying to be more wholesome and humble

Her hair and clothes are giving mindful and demure vibes in a way they never were before. She’s constantly letting everyone know how grateful she is for everything. She walked the red carpet at the Golden Globes with Cynthia instead of having a big moment all to herself, which is much nicer than how a lot of celebs behave. Her best friend now appears to be her 99-year-old grandmother – she flew especially to Florida so they could watch Wicked together.

The wholesome vibes are almost enough for us to forget all the rumours about how exactly she ended up with Ethan Slater. Almost.
