How the Golden Globes’ celebrity-filled seating plan was chosen, revealed

Not to be dramatic, but I would sacrifice my firstborn child to sit next to Zendaya and Selena Gomez at the Golden Globes. Here’s an overly nosey rundown of which celebrities sat next to each other at the event, and an explanation of who has the ultimate power over the seating plan. Apparently the celebs can request not to sit next to certain people?

Selena Gomez sat with her fiancé Benny Blanco, another plus one, Zoe Saldaña, Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy. Her Only Murders in the Building spiritual adoptive dads Martin Short and Steve Martin were on a totally different table near Anthony Mackie and Seth Rogen.

The Golden Globes held so much space for Wicked. Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Cynthia’s partner Lena Waithe, Jeff Goldblum, and Michelle Yeoh were on a table together.

Kylie Jenner was Timothée Chalamet’s plus one and sat among his co-stars in A Complete Unknown, Monica Barbaro and Elle Fanning. The actors all have which film or TV show they’re there for written underneath their names. People like Kylie Jenner are labelled “audience talent” instead.

There are over a thousand guests at the Golden Globes

The 2025 Golden Globes were held in the Beverly Hilton ballroom, which can seat around 1,400 people. Crickey, and I thought doing the seating plan for Christmas dinner was complicated. The super famous people are sat at the tables in “the pit” – the area closest to the stage. This is the area that’s on TV the most.

Generally speaking, the seating plan is organised by the Golden Globes camera crew. The most famous celebrities are evenly distributed among the tables near the stage. This is so that every time the cameras cut to the audience, you can go, “ooh, a famous person!”

Actors who worked together on the same project will generally be sat together. This is fun for them, but also makes sense if their film wins something and they all have to go up on stage together.

Jorge Camara is the Chairman of the Board of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (the organisation which runs the Golden Globes). He spilled the tea to Elle on who decides the seating plan.

He said, “Remember, this is also a television show! We base a lot of who is seated where on camera range.

“Usually what we try to do is to have at least four or five big stars at each table. Each table seats twelve, so that would be four or five stars, their guests, plus another guest or studio head or a producer. That’s how we try to work it, so that when the camera does a run of the room, you see it full of stars.”

…But some celebs still make requests of who they don’t want to sit next to

“Each nominee can bring one guest, and each studio can bring a representative,” Camara said, “And then if they require more seats for family or something like that, we have to wait and see if we can accommodate them. Usually we can, but that’s where the problems start.”

He added, “Sometimes they say who they want to sit with, and sometimes they tell us who they don’t want to sit with! And we try to accommodate that.”

The TV crew run around making sure everyone sits where they’re told

Because the Golden Globes is so complicated to film, it can really mess up the camera crew’s lives if any celebs act like divas and decide to sit somewhere different. If a celebrity wanders off and tries to sit next to Zendaya (which is absolutely what I’d do), then the TV production crew usher them back into their seats.
