Stay calm, Squid Game season three is literally months away and here’s what to expect
It’s coming way sooner than you’d think
I’m still lowkey in shock after the wild cliffhanger ending of Squid Game season two. Here are all the juicy details we know so far about Squid Game season three, so you can start mentally preparing yourselves for what happens to Gi-hun next.
When is Squid Game season three coming out?
The next season of Squid Game is coming way sooner than we thought, thank the gods. The show’s creator Hwang Dong-hyuk actually wrote the script for both season two and season three at the same time. They were filmed one after the other. So, filming has already wrapped for season three. Netflix has announced they’ll bless our screens with Squid Game season three in 2025.
Hwang Dong-hyuk told Variety, “I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon. I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year.”
That’s only six to ten months away! After the three-year wait between season one and season two, a 2025 release for season three feels miraculously soon.
The plot of Squid Game season three looks really juicy
Hwang Dong-hyuk promised the conflict between Gi-hun and Front Man will be the focus of the next season. He said, “The fierce class between their worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
A tantalising mid-credit scene at the end of season three hinted there will be a return of the iconic Red Light, Green Light game, but with a bonus robot.
Season three will be the last season of Squid Game. Gi-hun and the Front Man will have their final fight.

The death at the end of season two is going to really impact Gi-hun in season three
Spoiler alert: Front Man shoots Jung-bae. It sounds like Gi-hun is really going to struggle with guilt and grief in season three. This will impact his decisions and his whole approach to taking down the Squid Games.
Hwang told Tudum that Gi-hun will be in a “state of deep despair”. His whole worldview will be shaken up. Hwang said, “Is he still going to believe that he will be able to persuade others and leave together or put an end to the game? Or will he give in and become a completely different person? Someone just like the Front Man, who thinks, ‘What can I change?’”
He promised Variety, “You’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season. Gi-hun will not be the man he was in Season 2.” I’ve got chills.
