Wait, why is everyone mad at Kim Kardashian for wearing Lady Diana’s $200k cross necklace?

People say she’s ‘obsessed with dead celebrities’ stuff’

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to internet hate, but she has recently been at the centre of negative attention for wearing a $200,000 cross necklace that once belonged to Lady Diana. It’s the first time the necklace has been worn since Lady Diana debuted it and people are not happy with Kim AT ALL.

Kim wore the necklace for the 2024 LACMA Art+Film Gala at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She tied it higher than how Diana had styled it, pairing it with a white plunge dress and coat.

Kim had purchased the necklace at an auction for just under $200,000 in 2023, but it’s not the first time she’s owned something belonging to a deceased A-lister.

Kim has faced backlash many times before for wearing clothes or jewellery belonging to a deceased celebrity. In 2022, she wore the original $4.8 million gown Marilyn Monroe sang happy birthday to President JFK in from 1962 – and broke it. It was borrowed from the museum that was looking after it.

Kim also purchased Michael Jackson’s original hat from the Smooth Criminal music video, and his jacket that set her back $65,625. She bought it to complete North’s Halloween costume in 2019. Kim noted on her Instagram story that the hat “still had some of Michael’s makeup on it.”

In 2017, she paid over $379,000 for Jackie O’s watch that she wore in the 1970s, and she owns other jewellery that used to belong to Elizabeth Taylor and Janet Jackson to name a few.

So why are people mad at Kim?

People seem to get mad at Kim Kardashian every time she steps out with a pre-loved celebrity staple, but the cross necklace had people on X furious. One user labelled her outfit as “utterly tacky.”

Some thought it insensitive as the necklace has connotations with Christianity, and one user wrote “money is her religion.”

Another said: “I don’t think celebrities should get to wear that.”

Since 2023, Kim Kardashian has been the rightful owner of Lady Diana’s iconic cross necklace, so the matter of the fact is she can wear it as much as she likes. However, she does seem to have a thing for collecting dead celebrities’ things. I wonder who she’ll take inspo from next!
