Man appears in court for allegedly committing public indecency in Glasgow Uni library

His trial has been set for 2025

A 26-year-old man has appeared in court following his arrest at the University of Glasgow’s library, where he was charged with alleged public indecency.

Police were called to the university premises on Hillhead Street on Sunday afternoon, 20th October, after reports of a man allegedly “performing an indecent act on himself.”

The man was subsequently arrested and appeared in Glasgow Sherriff Court on Tuesday 22nd October, facing charges of public indecency as well as an offence under the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and has since been released on bail, with a trial date set for February 2025.

A spokesperson for the University of Glasgow confirmed that police were contacted to handle an “incident on University premises,” adding: “The safety and security of our staff and students is always our number one priority.

“It is rare for members of staff to call the police to incidents on campus. However, sometimes it is necessary to call the authorities for the safety of those in our community, or for the wellbeing of those involved in an incident.”

This incident has drawn attention to campus security and reinforces the university’s commitment to the welfare of its students and staff.
