Muffins, big poles and parmesan cheese: All the chaotic viral moments from the 2024 Olympics
It surely has been one to remember
Is it just me, or has this Olympics been absolutely packed full of rogue and bizarre moments? It feels like the internet can’t go more than two days without picking up on something really funny, strange or embarrassing that the athletes have done. Low-key it is giving Brat summer, it is just pure chaos over in Paris at the moment. So, in case you’ve already forgotten any, here’s a round up of all the viral Olympics 2024 moments that made this year’s games iconic.
The pole vaulter who lost out on a medal – because of his pole
Anthony Ammirati failed the bar and the commentators are clearly having a hard time acknowledging what happened 😂 HELP I'M DYING pic.twitter.com/5hOHttVA5g

They say size matters – well, it certainly did for Anthony Ammirati who was eliminated from the men’s pole vault due to a certain other pole of his being too large. On the bright side, he was since offered a £250,000 deal by a porn company to appear in a one hour video.
Being sponsored by parmesan cheese
We don't want to sound cheesy, but these pics of Olympic silver medallist Giorgia Villa being sponsored by parmesan cheese are just so grate 🧀

Erm, this one was just a little bit bizarre. I love parmesan as much as the next person, but I don’t love parmesan THAT much. Giorgia Villa modelled with a massive wheel of parmesan that was probably heavier than a small child – if you were wondering why, it’s because she is sponsored by a parmesan company. I feel like people kind of forgot about this one after a few days? Will probably be remembered more as a cult classic.
Our pommel horse gymnastic icon
Obsessed with this guy on the US men's gymnastics team who's only job is pommel horse, so he just sits there until he's activated like a sleeper agent, whips off his glasses like Clark Kent and does a pommel horse routine that helps deliver the team its first medal in 16 years. pic.twitter.com/0D1ZqJjFa1

This is probably my favourite moment on the list – it’s just so funny. This Olympics has really had a bit of a revenge of the nerds vibe to it, and the performance of Stephen Nedoroscik was the icing on the cake. Imagine being one of the best in the world at a sport while also being in the top 1.7 per cent of Rocket League players and looking like you run a Discord server. What an icon.
That Turkish shooter who rocked up and won a silver
The 51-year-old Turkish athlete Yusuf Dikeç makes a statement about going viral for competing at the Olympics without specialized equipment and winning a silver medal.
“I did not need special equipment. I'm a natural, a natural shooter” pic.twitter.com/cTF6dJ2yD5

Are we sure this man is not a trained assassin? He rocked up, looking totally unfazed and unbothered and managed to pull off a silver medal. I’m getting the vibe that he could have won gold but didn’t want to look too suspicious. What a legend, a statue of him should be built immediately.
The one athlete who’s obsessed with the Olympic Village muffins
DO YOU KNOW THE MUFFIN MAN?#ParisOlympics2024 pic.twitter.com/WfOAACNv3v

This is definitely one that will be forgotten about in a week only to resurface a decade later and be perceived as a culturally significant reminder of society in 2024. Henrik Christiansen just REALLY likes muffins, and who can hate him for that?
One poor bloke who was sick in the Seine
The Seine in Paris is so dirty that triathletes get sick after swimming.🫣 pic.twitter.com/g5Al1YuCdx

Definitely not this man’s proudest moment – imagine it, you get to the Olympics and represent your country in the sport you’ve played since you could walk and you go viral for having a chun in the Seine. If the condition of it wasn’t fit for open water swimming before, it definitely isn’t now. I want to say “we’ve all been there”, but there’s a big difference between a humbling vomit at 3am in a club toilet and doing it on international television.
Guy who took chair from injured athlete
@eurosport When the wrong person takes the chair 😅😅 #Olympics #Paris2024
It’s giving refusing to give up a seat on the train to someone who obviously needs and deserves it more than you. The Brazilian coach really decided to tell the world that he was selfish and has no self-awareness by taking fencer Nathalie Moellhausen’s chair. Silly decisions on a global scale, quite literally.
The gymnast who learned about the famous medal pose
This thread will brighten up your day.

It low-key has “I am the main character” energy to it, and I am absolutely here for it and a little bit obsessed with it – I’d probably do the same if I was the third best in the world at a sport. So cute and wholesome.
