Inside the secretive life of Luke Thompson when he’s not playing Benedict in Bridgerton

We’ve all grown to love Luke Thompson as Benedict in Bridgerton on Netflix. But outside of the show, the actor is pretty private about his own life.

Having said this, over the years he has given us some small details about what he gets up to and what his personal life is like, including where he grew up and how he is now dating another Bridgerton cast member.

So, as we watch him on screen as one of our favourite Bridgerton characters, here’s everything we know about Luke Thompson and his life outside the Netflix show world.

Bridgerton actor Luke Thompson is 35 and from Southampton

Luke Thompson is 35-years-old and was born in Southampton. From the age of two, he was brought up in France, and is one of three siblings. He returned to the UK in 2006, before starting to study drama.

Before being cast in Bridgerton, Luke Thompson had been in a number of theatre shows

Luke Thompson is best known for being Benedict in Bridgerton, but he has also had a number of theatre roles. His first professional theatre role was as Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at the Globe Theatre. He has also played characters in theatre productions of Hamlet, Julius Caeser and King Lear. He also appeared in A Little Life, alongside James Norton.

Luke has also had a number of TV roles, one being in the BBC One drama, In the Club. He made his feature film debut with a small role as a warrant officer in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

For his theatre work, Luke has received number of accolades – including a WhatsOnStage Award and a nomination for a Laurence Olivier Award.

He went to Bristol Uni

Luke Thompson studied English and Drama at the University of Bristol and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, graduating in 2013.

In the greatest crossover, Luke Thompson and Philipa Featherington actress Harriet Cains are dating! The couple made their public debut at a Vanity Fair Rising Stars party in January 2024.

Luke Thompson doesn’t have social media

Like a couple of his fellow Bridgerton cast members, Luke Thompson doesn’t have any social media. In an interview with Country and Townhouse, he said this isn’t to actively avoid fame, but more a decision based on his addictive personality.

“That’s a bit of a myth,’ he said, when asked if he was off Instagram to avoid the spotlight. “The reason I’m not on social media is that it plays into my addictive behaviours. It worries me, what it does to your attention span – I’m worried that I haven’t read a book in a long time, and that I find it difficult to focus on a film.

“But maybe partly I think I’m not capable of dealing with it. And it doesn’t quite square with my vision of this job. But, you know, people have different visions of the job.”
