A video of Colleen Ballinger in what appears to be blackface has sparked a debate online

Some people think it’s actually green face paint

Colleen Ballinger has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds and Twitter threads, Instagram feeds and TikTok For You Pages following allegations of her having inappropriate conversations and relationships with her fans, which she has since denied.

Colleen Ballinger, best known for her Miranda Sings persona, has received a new wave of backlash after a video of her singing along to Single Ladies by Beyonce with what appears to be dark coloured face paint resurfaced online – which many people are accusing her of doing blackface.

The original video was uploaded to YouTube on February 2018 but remains unlisted on her channel, meaning only people with the link can view it. The video shows Ballinger with dark makeup or face paint on her face. The video appears to show the YouTuber singing off-key to the song as two people awkwardly dance behind her.

The Tab has reached out to Colleen’s management for comment.

“I’m gonna need someone to explain the black on her face,” influencer Paige Christie wrote on Twitter, who believes the video was taken “around the summer of 2010” and posted unlisted on YouTube to accompany Colleen’s book, which included a QR code to the video, which was published in 2018.

“This is not acceptable behaviour,” one user wrote on Twitter. However while some social media users believe it is blackface, some have suggested Colleen was wearing green face paint.

A Reddit user suggested Colleen Ballinger wasn’t doing blackface and instead had green face paint on after performing Defying Gravity as Elphaba during the show.

A user on Twitter echoed this sentiment and wrote: “Colleen Ballinger did not do blackface. She was wearing green face paint for a song from Wicked that she performed earlier in the show.”

The resurfaced video comes after Ballinger responded to accusations of inappropriate relationships with her teenage fans, denying she had “groomed” any of her fans.

In a video where she mostly sings, Colleen said: “I’m sure you’re disappointed in my sh*tty little song. I know you wanted me to say that I was 100 per cent in the wrong. Well I’m sorry I’m not gonna take that route of admitting to lies and rumours that you made up for clout.”

“The only thing I’ve ever groomed is my two Persian cats. I’m not a groomer, just a loser who didn’t understand I shouldn’t respond to fans and I’m not a predator even a lot of you think so because five years ago I made a fart joke,” she sang in another part of the video.
