Manchester isn’t like London – it’s better

It’s not London, it’s better

Despite its constant comparison to London, good old Manchester has become a great performing competitor in the race to best UK city. The reasons why you should be giving Manchester a chance can be summed in 5 simple reasons.

Manchester is home to the Northern Quarter (known as NQ by hipsters)

This quirky, modern and bohemian part of the city centre is home to many trendy people, places and graffiti. The up and coming area is popular with young adults (especially those with a man bun) looking for excellent restaurants, tea houses and bars. Feeling less fancy? the Northern Quarter is also home to an array of wonderful takeaways serving the classic student favourite – chips and gravy.

The nights out are so much better and cheaper
Nights out in Manchester – especially for students, are a laugh. Factory and Fifth Avenue guarantee that you’ll be inches away from every person in the club, which is great, if you don’t mind sharing your personal space! A proper night out in Manchester will definitely be cheaper than in London (and that’s just considering transport), entry can be anything from free to £10 on average. Depending on your vibe, Manchester is home to diverse areas for a great night out including the famous Deansgate Locks, the Northern Quarter, Fallowfield and Oxford Road.

The shopping is GREAT

When it comes to shopping, Manchester never fails to provide: The Trafford Centre, the second largest shopping centre in the UK, provides locals and tourists with a luxurious shopping experience with the range of stores from Selfridges to Victoria Secret. Not in the mood for shopping? Try the cinema, mini crazy golf, Laser Quest, or games arcade.

You can actually afford to live here

One of the more obvious reasons for Manchester’s greatness is the affordable living prices. For the price of a one bedroom studio in the capital, you can rent a whole house in Manchester, who wouldn’t say yes? Additionally, enjoy living no more than an hour away from the city centre when living in the popular neighbourhoods of Hale, Didsbury or Prestwich (yes Manchester isn’t very big – but that’s also a good thing). Not only do Mancunians save money on rent, expenses such as food, shopping and transport are cheaper, which makes the lifestyle even better.

It’s in the top 50 global cities to live in

When looking for a new place to call home, it is expected to do research. If the previous reasons haven’t yet convinced you, then you need the approval of the public. In 2015, Manchester was named the 45th most livable city by Global Liveability Survey above.. you guessed it, London.

Maybe the grass is greener on the Mancunian side after all.
