Power has now been restored to all areas

The University of York faced a "significant power outage" this afternoon.

It was the north part of campus which had been affected.

The University of York are aware of the situation, though it is yet to confirm what caused the power outage.

A tweet posted to the University of York's Twitter account read: "We are aware of a significant power outage affecting much of the north part of campus. A specialist team is en route to investigate. Further updates on email and here as we have them."

The University of York's Library's Twitter account also confirmed that the Library was without power. It also confirmed that the Spring Lane Building would reopen from 3PM and students were advised to move there until the library reopened.
