What your Halloween costume says about you: Edinburgh Uni edition
Spooky season has come our way and so have the costumes
Another year, another Halloween. Whether your costume of choice is a tried and tested staple, or something new and niche, your Halloween attire will definitely reveal something about you. Here is my (deeply scientific) analysis of what you go for.
Please note: This is all fun and games and you’re all very creative, unless you throw a sheet over yourself and say you’re a ghost. Boo.
1. Barbie (and Ken)
Barbie is obviously super popular this year, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a reiteration of “Hi Barbie!” all Halloween weekend. In fact, I’d love to. You my friend, are one with the times. So either you like being trendy, or your favourite childhood movie was Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses (the best one, no argument there). It’s giving ECA student.
2. Angel (or fairy, or devil, or witch…)
3. Taylor Swift
I’m expecting to see a lot of people dressed as Taylor Swift. After all, Halloween weekend begins with the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), and I’m sure there will be someone wearing every single era. I can’t pinpoint what you study or what your personality’s like, but I love you and I’m rooting for you.
4. Ghost
Most Read
You have no time. You had no plans. You pull all-nighters. You study medicine. I’d say you were falling so far behind time you forgot what day it was, holed up in your room. Your flatmates forced you out of the house, didn’t they?
5. Ariel
You’re living out your childhood dreams and I respect it so much. I just know you were so excited for the movie to come out and started planning your outfit super early. You’re someone who likes to be the centre of attention and will definitely be one of the sparkliest in any room.
6. A superhero
Hmm, you’re probably still in love with the MCU, or maybe you’re more a DC person. Margot Robbie fans must come dressed as Harley Quinn. No exceptions. Also, you’re one of those people who knows everyone, everywhere, no matter what and I’m a little bit scared of you.
7. Wednesday Addams
Again, one to go with something trendy. I’d say you planned and planned, but then chose to throw on the first all-black outfit you found, tied your hair into two braids, and called it a day. You were probably working on your midterms though, so I’ll let it slide. Let’s hope there’s no fake blood falling on you.
8. Vampire
My personal favourite, especially with videos making the rounds on TikTok lately. I’ve seen people really commit and dress up as Haechan the vampire, but honestly, any vampire is great – like the Cullens. Shiny, sparkly vegetarians galore. Unfortunately, I will say you’re probably not the most imaginative. Still, an icon is an icon.
9. Pennywise (Bonus points if you do the dance)
Iconic for a reason. IT was one of my favourite first watches, and I’ve rewatched it so, so, many times. Pennywise is a hilarious character, and Bill Skarsgård kills it. It would take so much effort to dress like IT, so I’m impressed. You’re not one to back down. You’re definitely a Film Studies major.
10. Cheerleader
Yes, I think cheerleaders are cool. Please carry pompoms.
All this being said, I’m going to love every costume I see (I think). I mean, I’m literally dressing up as an angel (in a blue dress, so if you see me say hi) with wings and a halo. That’s what Halloween is for.
