We asked ChatGPT to compare the most popular nights out in Newport and Cardiff
Verdict: Newport’s night scene ended in 2010
Whether you’re incoming this academic year as a fresher or a seasoned uni gal or guy, we all want to put the long week of endless assignments and lectures behind us and set our sights on a great night out.
In this guide we asked ChatGPT to break down some of the best and worst nights out in and Cardiff and Newport.
Spoiler, it is fair to say that Cardiff wins by a far.
The Kings Head – Newport
If you love live music and a set of drinks, ChatGPT suggest The Kings Head in Newport. It describes the scene as being known for its “selection of ales” and curating a “friendly atmosphere”. It occasionally also offers a live music showdown and is closely located near the city centre.
It is fair to say if you and your mates are looking for a great place for a casual night out or a place for pres this might be the place to go.
Gassy’s – Cardiff
If you enjoy a night out, but are still hanging from going too hard the night before, Gassy’s might be the perfect place for you. Known for its chilled, yet vibrant atmosphere, Gassy’s is set up for events like drag bingo, open mic, karaoke and live music. Get the drinks flowing and the food down, you’ll have a great night and somewhat of a clear head for that 9am lecture.
Live Lounge – Cardiff
For many Cardiffians, Live Lounge is no secret. ChatGPT describes Live Lounge as “the place to be” featuring a range of bands, artists and DJs “offering a lively and energetic environment”.

Whether you and your mates want to sing your hearts after one too many to drink or are simply looking for somewhere to get the night started, Live Lounge is definitely one of our top recommendations.
Karen’s Diner – Newport
This was an exciting find, until we discovered it actually closed early last year just after a few months. WalesOnline reports that the diner’s hilariously rude service was unable to stay running after cost cuts. Although it was seen to be popular, it was later closed. It is fair to say that this would’ve been a great night out with friends.
Y Plas at Cardiff Uni’s SU
This one came as no surprise, and clearly to ChatGPT too. The SU is described as the “hotspot for students”, especially on popular nights like YOLO and Juice, offering no shortage of “cheap and affordable drinks” for a very lively crowd across Cardiff.
And with the SU’s new WYA app to keep tabs on friends, you’re never going to experience the horrors of trying to find your friends after one too many.
Vibez Super Club – Newport
Vibez Super Club is known as the best club in Newport, and it might be Newport’s YOLO. Characterised by its “stunning visuals” and “great music” Vibez seems to be highly rated among many of the locals and in August had Tom Zanetti performing.
This seems to be Newport’s spotlight place for students.
Circuit – Cardiff
Circuit is no stranger to fun and offers a varied taste in music with “five unique themed rooms”, a VIP area providing a private bar and DJ and PINK room to take seriously bad photos (which you definitely will as drinks are extremely affordable). It offers two nights: “IYKYK” Fridays and “Bad Decisions” Saturdays.
But I’ll say those toilets are a no.
The Neon – Newport
While ChatGPT came in clutch at the start it might score an error in judgement here. It describes Neon as “a good option” hosting “themed student nights, love music and club nights with different music genres, ensuring there’s something for everyone.”
However, some people have described it as “the worst place ever” calling out staff for “watered down drinks” while others praise the space as “brilliant” and “enjoyable”. It seems the verdict isn’t clear and the neon might be a hit or miss.
It is fair to say that this list was quite possibly endless and popular doesn’t necessarily mean ‘good’, but we are forced to conclude that a night out in Cardiff ending with a kebab (chicken shish, ofc) might be your best call.
It seems a good night out in Newport ended in 2010, sorry.
