We’re recruiting: Here’s every reason you should write for The Cardiff Tab this year

It’s the perfect opportunity to get involved with Cardiff gossip and journalism, of course

Are you passionate about writing, creating a story and working with a team of like-minded people? Then, The Cardiff Tab is the perfect group for you.

With no prior experience required, writing for us is the perfect way for you to learn about journalism, meet new people and show off your writing skills to our readers.

Whether you are a fresher or a postgraduate student, The Cardiff Tab welcomes you with open arms, so please come to our open meeting on Monday 30th September. It will be held in The Vulcan from 6pm, which means you can grab a drink and also meet the rest of the team.

The opportunity to write about (pretty much) anything

No matter what degree you’re studying, if you’re interested in writing articles and building up a portfolio, then joining our team is the perfect answer.

You could be writing features pieces on the student accommodations as songs from Brat, or about Cardiff’s best live music venues. Or, you could write up stories on news in and around Cardiff, whether these are breaking stories covered by news outlets or student-related reports.

We’re also known for being first to get scoops. Remember, the blue shirts and chinos drama? Or, maybe the “wife beater social”? How about the rugby brawl in The Mack?

There is also no pressure to pick up commissions every week, but they are frequently available in the group chat or to pick up from meetings each week. You can take on as much or as little as you like.

You will bulk up your CV

Being part of The Cardiff Tab will broaden your horizons to other journalism opportunities.

The Tab as an overall publication is well-known within the industry and by employers, so it will look great on your CV if you pick up commissions and write a variety of stories..

The writers at The Tab HQ are also experienced journalists, often recent graduates who have previously written for teams like ours, so the advice and insight they can give you as a writer will be second to none. Our Assistant Editor, who helps commission and edit articles is actually a Cardiff Uni graduate, and fellow Cardiff Tab editor too.

There might also be opportunities given by headquarters to write articles for The Tab’s national site which gets nine million readers per month so it’s a great way to get your name out there.

You could apply at the end of this year to be part of the editorial team. All of which will be extremely valuable experience for your post-university life.

Joining a team of like-minded writers

The Tab team is the perfect place to meet new people. You will be working alongside people with similar interests and passions, some might even be on the same course as you, so joining the team is a great way to expand your university circle.

We will also have frequent meetings where you can mingle with the other writers and there will be some socials too, so keep an eye out.

We hope to see you in just over a week’s time at the Vulcan. Be there or be square!
