Where to watch the Boat Race and support Cambridge

As our athletes are gearing up for the race, all you need to worry about is where to watch it

| UPDATED

Whether you’re interested in rowing, or just in having a pint while supporting Cambridge, you might be wondering where to watch this year’s Gemini Boat Race against Oxford, taking place on 26 March 2023. Read on to find out where you can watch it first hand, on TV, and where the Varsity afterparty will be taking place.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch the 2023 Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge University, and where to go:

Putney Embankment

This is my top recommendation and the place where I usually watch the race. Head down to Putney Embankment for a thriving atmosphere, an abundance of food vendors, and a great view of the race. Grab yourself a pint, hotdog, crepe, or whatever you feel like, and soak up the buzzing environment.

The embankment will be closed to vehicles from 10am to 7pm, making it even easier for you to mill around and enjoy the day. But, if watching the race from tow path doesn’t appeal to you, make sure to book a riverside pub/cafe in advance to ensure a good view.

Fulham Fan Park

Located in Bishop’s Park, Fulham Fan Park is the best place to watch the very start of the Boat Race 2023. In addition to its great view of the river, it has big screens so you won’t miss any part of the action. Open from 12pm, there will be food vendors and a bar for you to enjoy.

Hammersmith Fan Park

Hammersmith Fan Park, located in Furnival Gardens, will be full of atmosphere. Just like the Fulham one, there will be big screens as well as a view of the river. As if this isn’t enough, Shepherd Neame, Britain’s Oldest Brewer, will be selling beer and food.

BBC One

If you don’t live anywhere near London but don’t want to miss out, turn on BBC One for full coverage of the race. I’m sure our Cambridge athletes will still be able to hear you cheering through the TV.

Varsity Afterparty, Infernos, Clapham

If you’re going to the afterparty, the fun doesn’t have to stop when the race does. At Clapham Grand, Cambridge and Oxford students can put their rivalry aside and have a good boogie.

If you haven’t already got tickets, you’re in luck because a final batch has been released on Fixr. These are likely to sell out, so grab yours now!

See you all at the race on Sunday!
