Fitz’s upcoming Willy Wonka themed ball will feature the ORIGINAL Veruca Salt from the 1971 version of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

A committee member secured Salt (aka Julie Dawn Cole) after a chance meeting in Fez with her daughter, India , who is at Girton.

Ms Cole spoke exclusively to The Tab: “I haven’t been to a Cambridge ball before, so I’m very excited for this.

“The theme is obviously the best so I just thought getting involved would be something nice and unexpected for everyone to enjoy!”

An Oompa-Loompa was scheduled to appear with Ms Cole, but is unfortunately busy with a Christmas pantomime.

The ball’s Publicity Officer, Megan Smith, commented, “[He] would have made the night even more special, but we’re just ecstatic that Julie is coming”.

Jenny Hipkiss, Vice President of the Ball Committee, added that she was thrilled with the news: “We had no idea that the theme would take off this much, but it’s something we’ve really had fun with.

“We can’t promise Johnny Depp but we’ve got loads more surprises on the night!”

Rumours also suggest that the ball will include ‘Q & A’ sessions and ticket signings.

The committee has promised to give away two ‘Golden’ tickets to a lucky attendee of last term’s Ball launch. The winner is likely to be named this week.

2010 has been the best-selling ball in Fitz’s history with capacity having to be increased to cope with demand.

The  committee expects the news of Veruca Salt’s attendance to cause ticket sales to rocket, one inside source revealed.
