Meet Kim Yeji: The viral ‘main character energy’ markswoman at the Paris Olympics
She quite literally shot herself to fame
It seems the world’s eyes being on the Paris Olympics can really make a star out of you. Who’d have thought it? No one knows it more than Kim Yeji – the pistol sharpshooter from South Korea who has just gone viral after her impossibly cool “main character energy” performance during the Olympics and a prior event – where she broke a world record in the 25 metre air pistol event. Here’s everything you need to know about Kim Yeji after she went viral as the Paris Olympics shooter on everyone’s lips. Nothing but respect for my Terminator.

The viral video of Kim Yeji shooting is actually from an event before the Paris Olympics, but this one below is where she won silver – and her shooter flatmate and close friend Oh Je Yin won gold!
Just so we’re clear, the South Korean Air Pistol team of Oh Ye Jin and Kim Yeji (hat) took Gold and Silver for the 10m Air Pistol competition at Paris 2024.
One wore her daughter’s elephant doll while the other’s pistol sight had a pink heart.

Everyone just got instantly obsessed with Kim Yeji and her Paris Olympics vibes – truly the coolest Olympics shooter I’ve ever seen. Although I must admit, I didn’t even know it was an Olympic sport. You literally learn something new every day.
“This girl is a movie character like how is she real?” one person posted on Twitter. “Underrated aspect of Yeji Kim’s coolness is how blasé she seems about the whole thing. She looks like she knows she could do this in her sleep,” said another. We are literally all stanning.
Kim Yeji is 31 and her sharpshooting partner is 12 years younger than her. Speaking on her friend and colleague’s success, Kim told Associated Press “She is like my youngest sibling, and I always want to care for her and always be there for her. So, when she won the gold medal, I was extra happy.

“I do not view her as my rival. This is a big stage, the Olympics, and we won the gold and silver. When we won these medals, we were so proud we are Koreans.”
Kim Yeji will compete in the final on August 2nd.
